“1000-lb Sisters” star Tammy Slaton is thrilled with her weight loss progress, and is feeling “great.”
In a new interview, the 36-year-old reality star opened up about the milestones she has achieved since undergoing bariatric surgery in 2022.
The star has come a long way since her near brush with death prior to surgery, which ended with her put on a ventilator and placed in a medically-induced coma after family members say she stopped breathing.
Slaton told People that after he near-death experience, she was ready for some changes. The reality star told the magazine, “I wised up and got my surgery. I was able to make my lungs strong enough to get my trach [tracheostomy tube for breathing] out, and then recently the doctor cleared me to be off my oxygen machine during the daytime.”
She adds, “Now I only wear my oxygen at night, along with my BiPap machine. I monitor my oxygen levels throughout the day and keep my machine on hand in case I need it.”

And the entire process has made an enormous difference in Slaton’s life. She tells People, “I’m feeling great! I’m thankful to be alive, and it’s fun to be progressing as much as I am.”
A month ago, Slaton posted the first pictures of herself to Instagram that showed the star without her breathing tube.
And not long after that post, she shared a picture of herself walking unaided for the first time. Before surgery, Slaton relied on a wheelchair or walker to get around, so it was a momentous occasion.
In this season of “1000-lb Sisters,” fans were able to watch Slaton make progress. On an episode that aired February 7, Slaton realized tat she had achieved her goal of dropping from 717lbs to 550lbs. That was the milestone she needed to reach to be approved for bariatric surgery.
On the show, Slaton says, “When I got on the scale and I saw the scale was at 534.7, I kinda stopped breathing for a second. I’m like 14 lbs. under my goal weight. From over 700, that’s a huge drop.”

Slaton then added, “I’m feeling thrilled, proud, excited — just all the emotions. I proved everybody wrong. Everybody that doubted me, I finally got mine! My told-you-so moment!”
On social media, Slaton has taken to showing off her progress and seems to be feeling herself as she moves from who she used to be to this new and exciting life.
But it’s not all roses and butterflies. Slaton married her boyfriend Caleb Willingham in November of 2022. The pair met while at a rehab facility, and tied the knot fairly quickly.
But things went sour, seemingly because Willingham wasn’t sticking to his weight loss plan while Slaton was determined to make major changes in her life.
In early May, the two split – as Slaton decided to focus on the future.
But divorce or not, Tammy isn’t giving up. She’s not letting life’s challenges derail her success. And her success is written all over her face with radiant smiles.
