People's Choice Awards 2020

Between the star-studded guest list and the show-stopping performances, the 2020 People’s Choice Awards was definitely a night to remember! It took place on Sunday, November 15, in Santa Monica, CA, and boy, did a lot go down!

So many big stars took home awards this year, including Joey King, Cole Sprouse, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, BTS, Taylor Swift, Zendaya, James Charles and more. But that’s not all. Demi Lovato hosted the glamorous event, while Justin Bieber, Chloe X Halle and more hit the stage to perform. Oh, and did we mention that Jennifer Lopez was honored with the People’s Icon Award? She even got emotional in her acceptance speech, and it practically left us all in tears.

From the full list of winners to the wildest moments and everything in between, we recapped the entire event for you. Here’s what went down…

Demi Lovato Made A Savage Joke About Her Short-Lived Engagement To Max Ehrich

Lovato and Max Ehrich shook the web back in July 2020 when they announced that they were engaged, after only a few months of dating. But then, in September 2020, fans were left devastated when news hit the web that they had split. At the time, the former Camp Rock star did not speak out about their breakup, but the High School Musical 3 alum claimed on his Instagram Stories that he found out that their engagement was over from articles he read online.

But during the PCAs, the “Sober” songstress spoke out about the situation for the first time ever, and we were all living for her response.

“This year has been the longest three years of my life. Don’t get me wrong, it started out amazing. I performed at the Grammys and sung the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. But then COVID hit and everything shut down, so I did what everyone else did. I went into lockdown mode,” she said. “I got engaged. I binged seven seasons of Pretty Little Liars, got un-engaged and went looking for aliens in the desert so basically the same as everyone else.”

Joey King Spilled All The Tea On ‘Kissing Booth 3’

While accepting the award for Comedy Movie Star at the 2020 People’s Choice Awards, King shared some major news about The Kissing Booth 3. For those who missed it, Netflix announced that they were making a third movie in the franchise earlier this year, but they’ve kept the details under wraps since then.

“This year has been so weird. I’m not gonna be the first person to say that tonight on this stage. But the fact that our movie and my character brought some laughter to everybody at home, that makes me smile. That makes me feel so good. That makes me feel so happy. I want to thank our director, Vince Marcello. I want to thank Netflix,” the actress said during her speech. “And, also, I told myself that if I won, I would share a very exciting piece of news with everybody. So I want to tell you that The Kissing Booth 3, our final installment, is going to be released in summer 2021. I’m so excited! I wish it was tomorrow. I really wish it was tomorrow. Thank you guys so much! Thank you for loving this movie and for loving this character as much as I do. It just means so much.”

This is the best news ever! Now we’re officially counting down the days until next summer!

Justin Bieber Totally Slayed The Stage With His Performance

Bieber hit the stage to sing his hit songs “Lonely” and “Holy,” and he totally slayed the performances. Sister duo Chloe x Halle also delivered a breathtaking performance of their song “Ungodly Hour.” As fans know, the R&B group has had a pretty busy year. They recently released their sophomore album of the same name, and it’s full of bops. Plus, Halle Bailey is currently gearing up to star as Ariel in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, and we can’t wait!

Ellen DeGeneres Spoke Out About Her Recent Scandal

Ellen DeGeneres made headlines earlier this year when employees on her talk show accused her of having “a toxic work environment.” But despite the drama, the host made sure to thank her staff during the 2020 People’s Choice Awards. While accepting the award for best talk show, she said, “Thank you, thank you, thank you, from deep down in my heart, I thank you. I am not only accepting this award for myself, I’m accepting it on the behalf of my amazing crew, my amazing staff, who make this show possible. They show up every single day, they give a 100 percent of themselves, a 100 percent of the time. That’s 250 people times 170 shows a year times 18 years, and if you carry the two and divide it by 11, my point is I love them all. And I thank them for what they do every single day to help that show be the best that we try to make it every single day.”

Back in September, when The Ellen DeGeneres Show returned for its 18th season, the 62-year-old addressed the situation head on.

“As you may have heard, this summer there were accusations of a toxic work environment at our show, and then there was an investigation,” she said at the time. “I learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously, and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected.”

Jennifer Lopez’s Kids Made A Very Special Appearance

Lopez won the legendary People’s Icon Award this year, and boy, was her acceptance speech emotional! Especially when her kids — Maximilian David and Emme Maribel Muñiz — made a surprise appearance! Yep, after announcing that Lopez had won the award, a video popped up on the screen that showed her 12 year old twins congratulating her. Armie Hammer, Nicole Kidman and Renée Zellweger also sent in congratulatory videos, and it was seriously epic!

“Man, 2020 was no joke, right? I mean, before 2020, we were obsessing about winning this award or getting nominated for that award, or we were caught up on who sold the most records or who had the biggest box office opening… but not this year. This year was the great leveler that showed us what mattered and what didn’t,” Lopez said while accepting the award. “For me, what mattered most: People. All of us, together, helping each other, loving each other, being kind to each other, and the importance of that connection, that human touch. And I realize it’s what I strive for in everything I do, to reach people, to touch people. I believe that’s what we all want: Those shared experiences to know that we’re not in this alone.”
