Get ready, you guys, because one of our favorite movies is about to get a sequel — more than 11 years after it came out! That’s right, we’re talking about Easy A! One of the stars from the original flick — Aly Michalka — just confirmed that a second movie is being discussed, and we seriously can’t contain our excitement!

“There are talks that there might be a sequel,” the actress told E! News during a recent interview. “That actually is semi real. It would be kind of like a new retelling but you’d see some of the characters from the original come back into the story.”

What Was The Original Movie About?

Easy A Emma Stone

For those who forgot, the original movie was all about a girl named Olive who lied to her friend about losing her virginity in an attempt to spice up her life. But when big mouth Marianne overheard and spread the news all over the school, it backfired in a major way. Besides Michalka, it also starred Emma Stone, Amanda Bynes, Penn Badgley, Dan Byrd and more. It came out on September 17, 2010, and it quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. We really hope this sequel happens!

What Is The OG Cast Up To Now?

Easy A Amanda Bynes

Stone did not slow down after Easy A. She went on to star in Friends with Benefits, Crazy, Stupid, Love., The Help, The Amazing Spider-Man, La La Land, Maniac, Zombieland: Double Tap, Cruella and more. She got married to Saturday Night Live segment director Dave McCary in 2020, and they welcomed their first child together earlier this year!

As for Bynes, she actually announced after Easy A came out that she was taking an indefinite hiatus from acting. After that, she had a few run-ins with the law and had some issues with substance abuse and addiction. In 2018, however, the former Nickelodeon star revealed via Twitter that she had been sober for four years! She then started to focus much of her time on her education, and enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. She also got engaged to a student from LA named Paul Michael last year. You go, girl!

Badgley continued to act after Easy A, landing roles in Margin Call, Periods., Greetings from Tim Buckley, Parts Per Billion, Cymbeline, The Paper Store, Adam Green’s Aladdin, Here Today, The Birthday Cake and more. Most famously, he played Joe Goldberg in the popular Netflix series You! The Gossip Girl alum also joined a band called MOTHXR, and they released their debut album, Centerfold, in 2016. He and his girlfriend, Domino Kirke, became the parents to a beautiful baby boy in 2020.

Easy A was just the beginning for Michalka. Afterwards, she starred in HellcatsThe RoommateCrazy Kind of LoveGrown Ups 2SequoiaTwo and a Half MenChevWeepah Way for NowThe LearsRyan Hansen Solves Crimes on TelevisioniZombie and others. She also launched a major music career alongside her sister, AJ Michalka, and together, they formed a band called Aly & AJ. They broke so many records, won tons of awards, embarked on numerous world tours and more! And get this — Michalka is now a married woman! She tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend, fellow actor Stephen Ringer, in 2015.

Byrd may always be Brandon in fans’ hearts, but that didn’t stop him from accomplishing a lot. He went on to star in Cougar Town, Weepah Way for Now, Sisters, Doomsday, Utopia and more.

What Other Old Movies Are Getting Sequels Now?

It turns out, this isn’t the only old movie that’s getting a sequel years later. Yep, back in May, Disney announced that they were making a second Enchanted movie, and everyone quickly started to freak out. The original film came out on November 21, 2007 and starred Amy AdamsPatrick DempseyJames Marsden, Idina Menzel and more. It was all about a girl named Giselle who accidentally escaped from her fairy-tale world into New York City, and boy, was she in for a shock.

And we have good news, people! Get this — almost all of the original stars have signed on for the second movie, including Adams, Dempsey, Menzel and Marsden. Unfortunately, Rachel Covey will not return as Morgan (Dempsey’s character’s daughter), but instead, Gabby Baldacchino has been recast for the role. Plus, Maya RudolphYvette Nicole BrownJayma Mays, Kolton Stewart and Oscar Nuñez have all also joined the cast! Wow, talk about a dream team.

As for who the new stars will play, it’s still unclear, however Rudolph hinted on Twitter that she is going to appear as a villain.

“What’s a good fairy tale without a great villain? I’ll see you in Andalasia my pretties…” she wrote.

Here’s an official synopsis for the film: “Disenchanted features the much-anticipated return of Giselle, the princess from the fairy-tale world of Andalasia banished to Manhattan who found her real Princess Charming in divorce lawyer Robert Philip. 15 years later, Giselle moves to the suburb of Monroeville with Robert and their teenage daughter Morgan, where she must juggle the challenges that come with a new home and discover what happily ever after truly means to her and her new family.” Ugh, we can’t wait to see how this plays out!

That’s not all. There’s actually a brand new Willy Wonka prequel movie in the works at the moment, which is going to be about the chocolatier we all know and love as a kid!

According to Deadline, the new film “will focus on a young Willy Wonka and his adventures prior to opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory.” And want to know the best part? Timothée Chalamet is reportedly starring in the upcoming picture, and he’s going to show off his dancing and singing skills since it will have “several musical numbers.”

“He’s been the top choice for some time but scheduling was a hurdle that had to be overcome as training for those numbers is included in the prep for this film,” the outlet added.

Paul King (who was previously behind the Paddington series) will direct the movie, from the screenplay he wrote with Simon Farnaby (who has worked on YonderlandGhosts and more). It’s unfortunately still unclear who else will be starring in it or what exactly is going to go down, but we do know that Charlie Bucket will not be in the movie, since it will focus on Wonka as a kid.
