Amy Schumer Talks Oscars on Standup Stage in Las Vegas

Amy Schumer took her standup onstage for the first time since hosting the Oscars.

The comedian performed in front of a packed crowd at the Mirage in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Did the Oscars Cross Anyone’s Feed?

Telling the crowd it was her first headlining gig since giving birth, Schumer talked motherhood, her recent hysterectomy and the slap seen around the world.

“Yesterday (Friday) was the only day I didn’t drink. And I drank,” she says jokingly.

“I don’t even know what to say about the Oscars. I have no jokes about it,” referencing Oscar Winner Will Smith’s on-air slapping of comedian Chris Rock. “Did that cross your news feed?” she asks sarcastically.

“It is such a bummer,” she admits. Schumer tells the crowd she was “feeling herself” after her monologue and “then all of the sudden Ali was making his way up (to the stage).

Six days prior comedian Chris Rock was awarding the Oscar for Best Documentary when he made a joke that was not rehearsed about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s bald head. Will Smith took to the stage and slapped Rock live on air in a moment that is still being talked about. Smith has since resigned from the Academy.

“All I can say is that it’s really sad.” Schumer continues. “It shows a lot about race, about toxic masculinity, just everything.” Quickly moving on, Schumer chose to share some of the jokes about the Oscars that either her lawyer or the Academy didn’t allow her to make. The Life and Beth producer and actress wanted to give a shout out to the healthcare workers she says and that included “Joe Rogan.”

Oh, About Alec Baldwin…

In another joke about Alec Baldwin, Schumer wanted to make a play on the Oscar nominated film Don’t Look Up by instead urging people to not “look down… (pause) the barrel of Alec Baldwin’s shotgun.” That joke referencing the onset shooting in New Mexico where Alec Baldwin accidentally shot two crew members on the set of Rust. The accident resulted in the film's director Joel Souza getting injured and in the death of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer for the film.Schumer went on to kid about the recent news about the Baldwins having yet another child.

Schumer performed about one hour in front of the crowd that included both her mother and husband. Up next for Amy is the launching of her “Whore Tour” later this summer. The comedian is likely to perform these and other jokes when it kicks off on August 4. In the meantime, her latest television project Life & Beth is on Hulu now.
