It’s official, you guys — Big Time Rush is back and better than ever! That’s right, the Nickelodeon band — which is made up of Kendall Schmidt, Carlos PenaVega, James Maslow and Logan Henderson — just teased their comeback after spending seven years apart, and fans are seriously freaking out about it. Get this — on Tuesday, July 13, the official BTR account, Schmidt, PenaVega, Maslow and Henderson all changed their profile pictures to a plain red circle on Instagram and Twitter, leading everyone to believe that they’re about to drop some new music together or reunite for a reboot of their show. Plus, Stephen Kramer Glickman — who played the band’s manager, Gustavo Rocque, in the original show — also made the swap!

As fans know, the OG series premiered back in November 2009, and it was about four best friends who decided to start a band together. It went on for four seasons before it concluded in July 2013, but things didn’t end there for the group. After the show came to an end, the guys continued to make music together — releasing three epic albums and embarking on numerous world tours over the years — before they ultimately split in March 2014. They were definitely a huge part of a lot of our childhoods, so the fact that they’re about to reunite is seriously a dream come true and we can’t wait to see them together again!
They First Reunited In April 2020

Back in April 2020 (when lockdown because of the coronavirus pandemic first started), the four stars actually caught up via zoom, and they recorded a little video message for fans during their virtual hang out session — which had us all nearly in tears.
“What’s up everybody, it’s been a little while since we all got together so we wanted to jump on this virtual hang out and say hi and wish everyone well. Hope you guys are all staying healthy during this crazy time,” Maslow said in the clip, which was shared to Twitter at the time.

“It’s a great time to stay connected like we are, it’s a great time to reach out to friends and family, to check in and make sure everyone’s doing OK,” Schmidt told fans, with Henderson adding, “Please continue to stay home, stay safe and remember to practice a little more love and compassion right now during a time that we need it the most.”
And at the end of the video, PenaVega even dropped a major hint that they were working on new songs!
“We are in this together, we love you guys so much. Spread that love, spread that aloha, and who knows — there’s a lot to look forward to at the end of this,” he said, smiling. “See you guys soon.”
They then teamed up to record an acoustic version of their old hit “Worldwide,” and boy, did it make us emotional to hear them sing together again.
“These challenging times around the world have made us want to connect with all of you so much,” they wrote while sharing a video of the performance. “They have also made us want to stay connected with each other. We got inspired to record and sing together again seeing how many smiles our check in video created weeks back. We spent some time recently recording one of our favorite songs (safely apart) and wanted to share it with you all as our small way of saying thank you. We are sending love to all of you WORLDWIDE.”

They’ve All Previously Agreed To Reuniting

It turns out, this reunion has been in the making for a while now. In fact, in December 2018, Schmidt was asked if he’d be down to get the band back together, and he was all for the idea.
“I’m down, so we just gotta get the other guys,” he told admitted. “Why not? Of course! We had a good time … I think everybody’s in.”
Plus, PenaVega told International Business Times in 2018, “I really love performing and doing the TV show on set was fun, but going out and seeing the fans in person and getting that kind of immediate, instant gratification — there’s nothing like that. And that, I think, is the one thing that I miss. And I look back and look at videos. That would be fun to do again someday.”
What Have The Guys Been Up To Since Their Big Time Rush Days?

After the band went their separate ways, Henderson took a 3-year break to focus on his personal life. But in January 2017, the former Nickelodeon star stepped back into the spotlight and dropped his debut solo single, “Sleepwalker.” Then, in May 2018 he released his first EP, Echoes of Departure and the Endless Street of Dreams — Pt. 1. He’s currently working on his second album, Echoes of Departure and the Endless Street of Dreams – Pt. 2, and we still have his latest single, “Disappear,” on repeat, TBH. The singer was linked to Makenzie Vega and Britt Robertson over the years, but now, he’s reportedly single.
As for PenaVega, he continued to make music after Big Time Rush. His first single, “Electrico,” came out in February 2014, and then, in 2017 he dropped another song called “Bésame.” Besides making music, he has also landed some major acting roles. He starred in the TV shows The Casagrandes, The Loud House, The Power Couple, Life Sentence and more. He also appeared in numerous movies like Mighty Oak, Sleep Away, Love at Sea, Spare Parts and others!
But that’s not all. PenaVega also competed in Season 21 of Dancing With the Stars, where he came in fourth place. He got married to Alexis Vega on January 4, 2014, and they welcomed their first child together, a son named Ocean King PenaVega, in December 2016. Their second son, Kingston James PenaVega, was born in June 2019.
Maslow did not slow down after his time in Big Time Rush! Just like his former costar, the actor also competed in Dancing With the Stars! He participated in the 14th season and came in fourth place. In 2018, he also competed in the first American season of Celebrity Big Brother, where he was evicted on day 24. He also went on to star in Sequestered, Seeds of Yesterday, 48 Hours to Live, Love Exclusively, Bachelor Lions and more! Plus, he’s currently got a few new flicks in the works, so keep your eyes peeled for him!
As for his music career, his first single, “Lies,” came out on July 24, 2015. Then, in 2017, he dropped his debut album, How I Like It. He’s released a bunch more songs since then, and they’re all bops! Over the years, Maslow dated Aislinn Paul and Halston Sage. Most recently, he was in a relationship with Gabriela Lopez for more than a year, before he announced that they had split in January 2019.
Last but not least, Big Time Rush was just the beginning for Schmidt. He ended up joining another band, called Heffron Drive, with musician Dustin Belt. They dropped their first album together, Happy Mistakes, in September 2014! Then, in 2017, they released an EP called The Slow Motion. He also continued to act, appearing in Are You There God? It’s Me Margot, School of Rock and more. The actor has been dating Micaela von Turkovich since 2015, and they are seriously so cute together!
We can’t wait to see what the band has got up their sleeves.
