After months of anticipation, Billie Eilish has finally dropped her new single, “Power,” and  many fans are convinced that the track was inspired by her ex-boyfriend Brandon Quention Adams. For those who missed it, the singer (who is notoriously private when it comes to her love life) kept her year-long relationship with the rapper — whom she calls Q — a secret until after they broke up. It wasn’t until after they broke up, when she dropped her Apple TV documentary, Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry, that we got a small glimpse into their love story.

And now, it looks like we finally have some more info on what went down between them. Yep, a lot of people think that Eilish is singing about Q in her new tune, so we went ahead and broke down the shady lyrics for you.

Is The Song About Billie Eilish’s Ex-Boyfriend Q?

Billie Eilish Boyfriend

So it turns out, the song is all about a guy who used his power to take advantage of someone who was younger than him. For those who don’t know, when Eilish and Q started dating in 2018, she was 16 years old and he was 22.

“She said you were a hero / You played the part / But you ruined her in a year / Don’t act like it was hard / And you swear you didn’t know (Didn’t know) / No wonder why you didn’t ask / She was sleepin’ in your clothes (In your clothes) / But now she’s got to get to class / How dare you? / And how could you? / Will you only feel bad when they find out? / If you could take it all back / Would you? / Try not to abuse your power / I know we didn’t choose to change / You might not wanna lose your power / But havin’ it’s so strange,” the lyrics read. “I thought that I was special / You made me feel / Like it was my fault, you were the devil / Lost your appeal / Does it keep you in control? (In control) / For you to keep her in a cage? / And you swear you didn’t know (Didn’t know) / You said you thought she was your age.”

While discussing the song on Instagram, the musician said it was “one of her favorite songs she’s ever written” and admitted that it was “very close to her heart.”

“I feel very vulnerable putting this one out because I hold it so close to my heart,” she wrote. “This is about many different situations that we’ve all either witnessed or experienced. I hope this can inspire change. Try not to abuse your power.”

So is she talking about Q in it? Well, Some people are convinced that the track is indeed inspired by him, while others think it’s more of a general song and not about one person in particular. Unfortunately, it’s hard to say for sure and until Eilish divulges some more information, it’s all up to interpretation for now.

What Happened Between Q And Billie Eilish?

In the beginning of Eilish’s Apple TV documentary, she and Q appeared to be in a relationship. But by the end of it, they had gone their separate ways. So why did they split, you ask?! Well, the “Bad Guy” songstress explained in the movie, “I just wasn’t happy. I didn’t want the same things he wanted and I don’t think that’s fair for him. I don’t think you should be in a relationship super excited about things that the other person couldn’t care less about. I don’t think that’s fair to you. I don’t think that’s fair to him. There was just a lack of effort. I was literally like, ‘Dude, you don’t have enough love to love yourself so you can’t love me, dude. And you don’t. [laughs] You think you do.’”

She added that she felt like she couldn’t “fix” the rapper, and that she was missing out on other things because of the relationship.

“I do love him though, which made it harder. I’m not over him, I didn’t find someone else,” Eilish continued. “I didn’t stop having love for him. I just spent time away from him for a little bit and I was like, ‘Wow I’m missing so much because I’m worried about you all the time and I don’t want what you want and you don’t want what I want.’ I don’t want to fix him. I can’t fix him. I tried.”

During the documentary, Q could be seen hitting a wall and breaking his hand, and Eilish wasn’t happy about it.

“I’m trying to get him to go to therapy. He’s so self-destructive,” Eilish told a friend after the incident.

She also got upset after he went away with his friends on Valentine’s Day and didn’t do anything for her.

“I was just like, ‘You know what? Have fun. Don’t worry about me,’” she said. “I’m miserable, and I miss you, and I wish you would talk to me, and I have no one else to talk to.”

After it came out, some of Eilish’s fans started to hate on Q online, and he seemed to respond with a post to his Instagram Stories. At the time, he revealed that he was dealing with the death of his brother during his relationship with Eilish.

“Sometimes you have to be alone to cope. Anyone who know me knows where my heart is,” he wrote. “I stay with a smile on my face even when I’m hurting. We push through the pain. [No love is ever lost] but I refuse to be bashed. There’s always two sides to a situation.”

Eilish also allegedly spoke out about the situation, and she urged her fans not to hate on him.

“To the fans,” she posted on her own Stories. “Remember, be nice to people no matter what. I love you guys, thank you for protecting me but be nice!”

Can We Expect Any More New Music From Billie Eilish?

Billie Eilish

Yes! You might want to mark your calendars, people, because the 19-year-old’s new album, Happier Than Ever, is coming out on July 30, 2021! That means we’re only a few months away now from a bunch more Eilish songs, and we seriously can’t wait. And Eilish revealed during a recent interview that it’s going to be “completely different” from the music we’re used to from her. The star explained that because of the coronavirus quarantine, it changed many things about the music and its sound.

“I mean, we would have made something, but it would have been completely different [if we weren’t in quarantine]. It’s not like we’re making songs about quarantine, we’re just in a different mindset than we would be otherwise,” she said. “And that’s just how everything is. It’s the butterfly effect. It’s like if you hadn’t done this three years ago, maybe you wouldn’t be doing this three years later. It’s just the way that it is. At the same time, this is the most time off I’ve ever had in my life, first of all. And especially since this all started like five years ago. So it’s been a blessing, huge blessing and a curse, but I’m really, really happy that we’ve been able to make the things that we’re making. And I can’t wait for you to hear this s**t. I can’t wait to have the world hear. I’m very excited and hopeful for the future.”
