Get ready, Billie Eilish fans, because you’re about to see the singer like never before! That’s right, she was just cast as Sally in the upcoming live-action Nightmare Before Christmas concert special, and we couldn’t be more excited about it.
But wait, what can we expect from the remake of the iconic Tim Burton movie? Who else is starring in it? And most importantly, where, when and how can you watch it? Not to worry, you guys, because we went ahead and broke down all the exciting details for you. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Nightmare Before Christmas live-action concert special…
Who Else Is Starring In The Live-Action ‘Nightmare Before Christmas?’
According to Billboard, Danny Elfman — who starred as Jack Skellington in the original movie — will be reprising his role as the Pumpkin King for the new version! It will be filmed live over two nights at Los Angeles’ Banc of California Stadium on October 29 and 31.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to have Billie joining up with the nightmare crew!” Elfman said in a statement. “This will be a real treat (not a trick)!”
Eilish will perform “Sally’s Song,” alongside a full orchestra led by acclaimed conductor John Mauceri. Besides Eilish and Elfman, the star-studded cast also includes “Weird Al” Yankovic (who will play Lock) and Ken Page (who is set to return as Oogie Boogie). You can buy tickets for the event here! If you can’t make it to the actual event, not to worry because it will eventually be released as a film, however there’s no set release date for it just yet.
What Is ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ About?
For those who don’t know, the 1993 movie took place in Halloweentown — where the ghouls, ghosts and monsters live and spend their days preparing for the next Halloween. But when the Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington, accidentally stumbled into Christmastown and discovered a whole new world of warmth, love and happiness, he decided he wanted to make his own version of Christmas. He kidnapped Santa Claus and tried to take over the role, but naturally, it didn’t go as he hope. It originally starred Chris Sarandon as Jack’s speaking voice (Elfman took over for the songs), Catherine O’Hara as Sally, William Hickey, Glenn Shadix and more. It quickly became one of the most beloved Halloween movies of all time, and we cannot wait to see it come to life!
Are There Any Other Live-Action Remakes We Have To Look Forward To?
It turns out, this isn’t the only live-action remake we have to look forward to! Back in June 2021, Disney announced that they’re making a live-action version of Snow White, and you’re never going to believe who they cast as the princess! Drum roll please… It’s the one and only Rachel Zegler!
According to Deadline, Marc Webb (who was previously behind movies like The Amazing Spider-Man, Gifted and (500) Days Of Summer) is set to direct the new version of the fairytale. Plus, Marc Platt (who produced Dear Evan Hansen, Aladdin, Into the Woods, Legally Blonde, Girl On the Train and more in the past) will produce it! Oh, and did we mention that Benj Pasek and Justin Paul — the Oscar- and Tony-winning duo behind La La Land, The Greatest Showman and others — are going to write new songs for the movie. How awesome is that?! As for the plot, the outlet reported that the new film will “expand upon the story and music from the original.” There’s unfortunately no more information released at the moment, so we don’t know the full cast or when it’ll come out, but it has been reported that production is going to start in 2022. Hopefully the network shares some more details soon!
The company is also working on a live-action remake of Peter Pan, and Yara Shahidi has reportedly been cast as Tinker Bell. According to Deadline, the Grown-ish star was officially chosen to play the fairy that we all know and love, making her the first person of color to ever portray the traditionally-white character. Plus, Jude Law (who fans may recognize from his roles in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, Sherlock Holmes, A Series of Unfortunate Events and more) will reportedly play Captain Hook! Alexander Molony (who made his acting debut in 2017 and has starred in TV shows like The Reluctant Landlord and Claude) is going to star as the boy who doesn’t want to grow up and Ever Anderson (who briefly appeared in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, but hasn’t acted in anything else) is set to play Wendy.
There’s also a live-action remake of The Little Mermaid coming soon, and we can’t wait! Halle Bailey is going to play the red-haired mermaid, plus, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Daveed Diggs, Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy and Jonah Hauer-King are also set to star in it. Harry Styles was originally being eyed for the role of Prince Eric, but he ultimately turned it down to focus on his music. There’s also rumors of a live-action Pinocchio, but there’s no information released about it just yet.
