Legendary QB Tom Brady announced early Wednesday that he’s retiring from the NFL, but this time it’s for good.

Probably.

Brady posted a video to social media making the announcement, and he didn’t waste time getting to the heart of the issue.

Tom Brady: ‘I’m Retiring for Good’

The legendary football player said in the early Wednesday video, “Good morning guys, I’ll get to the point right away.”

He continued, “I’m retiring. For good. I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning, I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first this time.”

He added, “so, it won’t be long-winded, you only get one super-emotional retirement essay and I used mine up last year. So, I really thank you guys so much. To every single one of you for supporting me; my family, my friends, my teammates, my competitors. I could go on forever, there’s too many.

He concluded emotionally, “thank you guys for letting me live my absolute dream. I wouldn’t change a thing, love you all.”

Brady originally retired after the 2021 season but changed his mind six weeks later.
However, he’s apparently done for good this time.

Tom Brady is a Legend, Whether He’s Your QB or Not

Brady will walk away from football with the most Super Bowls of any player in NFL history.

And he will almost certainly be a no-brainer as a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Fame member.

Brady brought his team to 10 Super Bowls, winning seven. Six of those wins came during his time at the head of the New England Patriots, and he clinched his last Super Bowl win in February 2021 at the head of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Today’s announcement comes one year to the day after his first announcement.

After his first retirement, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said of the player, “Tom Brady will be remembered as one of the greatest to ever play in the NFL. An incredible competitor and leader, his stellar career is remarkable for its longevity but also for the sustained excellence he displayed year after year. Tom made everyone around him better and always seemed to rise to the occasion in the biggest moments.”

Goodell added, “It has been a privilege to watch him compete and have him in the NFL.”

Brady’s impressive portfolio of records includes:

  • 15-time Pro Bowler
  • 89,214 career regular-season passing yards
  • 649 passing touchdowns with just 212 interceptions
  • 35 postseason victories over 48 games and 13,400 passing yards
  • 88 touchdown passes in the playoffs.

It’s likely that Brady won’t leave the sports sphere forever, perhaps following in the footsteps of other legendary QBs who have retired and taken to the sportscasting booth.
