In November of 2022, Brooklyn Peltz Beckham announced his role as Co-Founder and Partner of WESAKE, a premier-grade Japanese Junmai Ginjo sake. The brand aims to bring great-tasting sake to the table and put the spotlight on this exciting nuanced category while honoring the heritage and tradition of the Japanese drink.
“I’ve always had a profound respect and intrigue for Japanese culture. Through my travels, love of cooking, and experimenting with new flavors, I was introduced to sake and felt immediately drawn to the taste,” says Peltz Beckham. “Sake deserves attention—there’s a gap in the road. Everyone’s tried it, but most don’t know the history behind it. I’m still learning a lot about the category! I’m excited to share my journey in sake education and I’m hopeful WESAKE will help others understand that you can enjoy sake anywhere, anytime, with any food, and with anyone.”
On March 30, Peltz Beckham celebrated the launch of WESAKE at Fleur Room West Hollywood with family, friends, and guests, including his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham, and Tiktok star Dixie D’Amelio.
WESAKE As A Brand
WESAKE is more than just another alcoholic beverage in a can. The delicious drink is also a brand that represents Japanese culture dating back more than 2,000 years. It’s partnered with one of the oldest (or shall we say, “vintage”) breweries in Japan made with only rice, water, yeast, and koji.
Brooklyn’s initial announcement was during an episode of Cookin’ with Brooklyn where he and Eda Vuong, the director of Sake School of America, explored the many variations of sake.
Pablo Rivera, Co-Founder of WESAKE spent years looking for new ways for consumers to approach new beverages before leaning further into the Japanese staple. “I treat sake as an everyday drink; but for many, sake remains a mystery,” Rivera says.
He continued, “While other categories have long dominated the attention of the American consumer, I believe it’s sake’s turn to take the spotlight, and Brooklyn has the passion and platform to do just that. Additionally, we’re humbled to be a member of the Sake Brewers Association of North America and contribute to the growth and awareness of this amazing beverage. We are excited to have Brooklyn on board to help raise overall awareness for the category and support our vision of making sake a part of everyday life.”
Alongside their efforts to bring light on sake, WESAKE is committed to donating a portion of their proceeds to Japan’s first food bank, Second Harvest, which works toward creating a Food Safety Net in Japan.
