Are Camila Mendes and Charles Melton back together?! That seems to be the question on everyone’s minds after the Riverdale stars were spotted on what appears to be a steamy date over the weekend. Yep, the former flames were photographed getting dinner together, and now, everyone is wondering if they’ve rekindled their relationship.
So are these two boyfriend and girlfriend again? And what went down between them the first time they dated? Inside Their Steamy Date Night
According to JustJaredJr, the pair dined at San Vicente Bungalows in West Hollywood before heading to La Poubelle in Hollywood. They were reportedly joined by a group of friends, including Cole Sprouse, Dylan Sprouse and Stella Maxwell. So are they back together? Well, unfortunately it’s still hard to say for sure, but the exes were wearing matching yellow shirts, and they did allegedly leave together!
A Look Back At Their Rocky Past
Mendes and Melton first met on set of Riverdale in the summer of 2017. At the time, she was still in a relationship with her childhood sweetheart Victor Houston, but when they announced that they had split in August 2018, rumors quickly started to spread that she and Melton were dating. One month later, they were spotted packing on the PDA at a movie theater, and it was all the confirmation we needed.
“Camila sat next to Charles and leaned on his shoulder,” an onlooker told E! News about the date. “As the lights were dimming, my friend saw them kiss!”
In October 2018, they went Instagram official! The brunette beauty shared a snap of her and Melton kissing to Instagram, which she captioned, “Mine,” with a heart. Unfortunately, it has now been taken down. She later opened up to Fox News about why she decided to go public with their relationship, explaining, “I did it because people were speculating. “I want to be able to live a normal life. Like, ‘Yeah, I’m dating this person — so what?’ But I am the kind of person who’ll keep talking and then all of a sudden, I’ve said too much. Still, I want to be able to kiss him and not think about it.”
After that, they quickly became couple goals — constantly sharing cute pics together, attending events side by side and packing on the PDA all over the world. They even reportedly moved in together in March 2019! And in May of the same year, Mendes couldn’t stop gushing over Melton on Instagram.
“Aside from having the biggest heart out of anyone I know, his passion and tenacity are part of the reason I fell in love with him. watching him throw his entire heart and soul into this story of love taught me a lot about the kind of person he is,” she wrote, while promoting his movie The Sun Is Also a Star. “I’m probably sharing too much, but before we started dating he’d often get mad at me for trying to bring logic into love. he taught me that love doesn’t have an explanation, it either exists or it doesn’t. It was his vulnerability not only as an actor, but also as a man, that taught me that valuable message, one that is so relevant to this film. i’m so proud of you Charles, and so grateful to have witnessed this beautiful journey of yours. Can’t wait for the world to see what you’re capable of.”
How sweet is that?! But in December of the same year, the entire world was shocked when news hit the web that they had gone their separate ways.
“Cami and Charles have been separated for a few months now. They are taking a break from their relationship.” an insider dished to E! News. “Their relationship escalated very quickly and they are taking time now to focus on their work and themselves.”
According to the outlet, their busy schedules were causing a lot of “stress and ups and downs” in their relationship. But they did end things on good terms.
“They both have movie projects separately and it’s been a lot on both their plates,” the source added. “Nothing in particular happened, they just both felt busy and overwhelmed and it was a lot of pressure on them. They are still in touch and both understand they need to be cordial while on set and throughout press for the show. They have been filming together while being split and things have been normal. Everyone is very close on the show and are all very good friends. They can’t ignore each other so they just remain cordial and try and focus on filming.”
After That, Camila Mendes Dated Grayson Vaughan
By February 2020, it had appeared that the actress had moved on, since she was spotted spending a lot of time with photographer Grayson Vaughan. They seemingly confirmed their relationship in June 2020 when photographers caught them walking hand-in-hand while out in Los Angeles. Then, in September, Mendes sent the entire internet into a frenzy when she shared a now-deleted snap of her and Vaughan kissing near a plane, which she captioned, “That long distance kind of love.”
They were seriously so cute together, until March 2021 when E! News reported that they had broken up.
“There was no drama at all, and they are still friends. Their relationship just ran its course,” a source told the publication. “Camila has been shooting in Canada and travel has been banned, so the pandemic didn’t make it easy to see each other.”
