Hulu has made the decision to cancel the sequel series “How I Met Your Father” after its two-season run, as reported by TVLine. This announcement comes just under two months following the Season 2 finale.

“How I Met Your Father” (HIMYF) continued the narrative eight years after the events of “How I Met Your Mother” (HIMYM) and revolved around a new circle of friends, including Sophie (portrayed by Hilary Duff from “Younger”), Jesse (played by Chris Lowell from “Veronica Mars”), Valentina (enacted by Francia Raisa from “grown-ish”), Charlie (brought to life by Tom Ainsley from “The Royals”), Ellen (performed by Tien Tran from “Space Force”), and Sid (embodied by Suraj Sharma from “God Friended Me”). The storytelling perspective was unique, as it was recounted by a 58-year-old Sophie, portrayed by Kim Cattrall from “Sex and the City,” who had already met the father, unlike the original series.

In the Season 2 finale, now serving as the de facto series finale, Sophie formed a connection with Jesse, a potential father figure for her child, while Sid, another potential candidate, faced the dissolution of his marriage to Hannah. Additionally, the closing scene introduced a secondary mystery by revealing that Val and Charlie, who had split up in Season 1 due to Charlie’s aversion to having children, ultimately became parents to a son named Alex.

Although primarily a standalone series, “How I Met Your Father” existed within the “How I Met Your Mother” universe and featured cameo appearances by original series stars Cobie Smulders (as Robin Scherbatsky) and Neil Patrick Harris (as Barney Stinson). A comprehensive compilation of these cameos, Easter eggs, and forthcoming revelations can be explored here.

The cancellation of “How I Met Your Father” concludes the series with a total of 30 episodes.
