There’s nothing quite as life-changing as a break-up.
When you realize that your partner is not meant to be your life partner, there can be a mix of emotions; from heartbreak and sadness, to fear, anger, and in some cases relief and joy.
It’s the same for celebrities, even if their relationships often play out in the public like scripted dramas.
Here are five celebrity super couples that have called it quits just since the ball dropped to usher the world into 2023.

Maisie WIlliams and Reuben Selby
Maisie and Rueben have been together for five years now.
But the Game of Thrones star wrote on Instagram that it’s all over.
Williams wrote in an Instagram story, “@reubenselby_ and I decided to end our relationship. Since we met 5 years ago, our connection always extended deeply into our shared, and separate, creative careers… and it will continue to do so…. This decision is something we are so grateful for so as we can protect the magic, that we can’t help but emit, whenever we put out brains together.”
The most recent social media pic of the two of them together is part of a campaign to raise global awareness about the devastations of climate change, from February 23, 2022.
Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval
The drama around the breakup between “Vanderpump Rules” stars Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval is predictably juicy.
The long and short of it is that Sandoval cheated on Madix with their co-star, Raquel Leviss, and the affair went on for months before it was outed.
Bravo juicemaker Patrick Somers says that Sandoval also cheated on Ariana (and Raquel?) with his bestie, Julia. Sandoval admits to the affair with Raquel (and has since apologized) but seems miffed by the accusations from Somers.
Either way, Ariana and Tom are officially donezo.
Maddie Ziegler and Eddie Benjamin
Maddie Ziegler may be known for her superhuman dance moves, but she’s no longer known as the partner of Eddie Benjamin.
The two were together for three years before splitting “amicably” in February.
It’s unclear what caused the break-up, especially since in January 2022 =, Maddie told ET, “I feel very excited every day that I get to date him,. We have such a good time together and we were best friends for a really long time before we dated. It’s like I ‘m just hanging out with my best friend every day. It’s really fun. It’s honestly the best. I love it.”
She doesn’t love it anymore.
Camila Cabello and Austin Kevitch
Camila Cabello and Austin Kevitch confirmed their break-up in a bizarre way: through a Lox Clubs newsletter.
Kevitch is the CEO of Lox Club, so we guess it makes sense to tell customers about his love life, or something.
Whatever happened, a source told ET, “There’s no bad blood between them and they’re both just very busy in their careers. It became difficult to balance that and their relationship.”
Avril Lavigne and Mod Sun
We’re not even sure how many people knew that Avril Lavigne was dating Mod Sun, but there you have it.
They broke up less than a year after getting engaged, and it would seem that Lavigne moved on quickly – to Tyga. Rumor placed the couple getting cozy at Paris Fashion Week, and then turned from rumor to fact.
They’re appearing out and about as a couple now. Love works in mysterious ways, after all. And while rap meets rock is not what anyone expected 2023 to bring, it’s a vibe we’re here for.
But love is apparently so mysterious that Mod Sun didn’t realize that he and Lavigne were over, or that she had started dating someone new. Before Lavigne and Tyga stepped out together officially, a representative for Mod Sun released a statement reading, “They were together and engaged as of three days ago when Mod left for tour, so if anything has changed that’s news to him.”
Awkward.
