Social media can be a great way to meet new people — just take it from your favorite stars! Yep, so many celebrity couples actually met by sliding into each other’s DMs online, so don’t be afraid to send a message to the guy or girl you’re crushing on.
“I was working on [the movie] Tick, Tick…Boom and my girlfriend was on this Zoom meditation group weekly, and she was like, ‘Would you want to hop on?’ And I was like, ‘Of course, I love that,’ and they added me to a group text,” she explained. ” And everyone is sending GIFs of themselves, and it’s like Joe Jonas, Wilmer Valderrama. So I send a GIF of myself and then there is a GIF in the group chat of a baseball player sliding into a base, and I thought it was a joke, so I just responded, ‘Hot.’ And then I get on the Zoom and I am like, ‘Who is that?’ And we started talking and yeah it’s wild that we found each other over Zoom.”
Hudgens continued, “I mean I’m such a go getter. If I want something or someone I’m going after them. I fully just slid into his DM and was like, ‘Hey it was nice to meet you.’ I think there is no shame in making the first move. If you want it why wait for someone else to give you what you want.”
It turns out, she’s not the only one. Stars like Jonas and his wife, Sophie Turner, Dua Lipa and Anwar Hadid, Dylan Sprouse and Barbara Palvin and so many more of Hollywood’s hottest couples have also started their relationships on social media. Here’s all the celeb couples who met by sliding into each other’s DMs…
Joe Jonas And Sophie Turner
“We had a lot of mutual friends and they’d been trying to introduce us for a long time,” Turner explained to Harper’s Bazaar UK during a March 2019 interview. “We were following each other on Instagram and he direct messaged me one fine day, out of the blue.”
After talking for a few weeks, they decided to meet up at a bar in Camden, U.K., since Jonas was scheduled to perform there with his brothers, and right away, they hit it off. According to Turner, the pair talked for “hours.”
“It wasn’t small talk — it was just so easy. And soon we were, like, inseparable. I went on tour with him,” the Game of Thrones star recalled to Elle Magazine. So cute!
Dua Lipa And Anwar Hadid
During an appearance on of Watch What Happens Live!, Lipa admitted that she and Hadid got close after she sent him a private message on Instagram! For those who don’t know, they started dating in June 2019, and have been going strong ever since.
“I have a confession to make… Mine was my boyfriend, so my current boyfriend,” she said, when asked if she had ever slid into anyones DMs. “I definitely did that. We actually met at a barbecue. But then it carried on onto DMs.”
Dylan Sprouse And Barbara Palvin
Sprouse and Palvin met for the first time at a party, but afterwards, the Suite Life of Zack and Cody star decided to send her a message. But the Victoria’s Secret model didn’t respond to him right away!
“She followed me, so I was like, ‘I guess I’ll give her something.’ And I slid into her DMs,” he told W Magazine. “I was like, ‘Hey, I don’t know if you’re in New York for very long, but we should hang out if you want to. Here’s my number.’ And she didn’t message me for six months.”
Palvin explained that the reason she didn’t answer him was because she wasn’t ready for a relationship. But eventually, she decided to respond, and it’s a good thing she did!
“I took my time,” she added. “I knew I wasn’t in a good mind-set at the time, and maybe deep inside I knew that it could be something more.”
Their relationship started in June 2018, and now — almost three years later — they’re as happy as could be together.
Madelaine Petsch And Travis Mills
“He messaged me on Facebook in January of Season 1 [of Riverdale] and congratulated me on the show,” the actress explained to Cosmopolitan. “He had auditioned for Jughead. I think we just randomly had mutual friends, so we added each other. We kept in touch very rarely, not even that much, from January to February, and then the day I got back from Season 1 in February I was bored in L.A., believe it or not. I was like, ‘What am I gonna do?’ I got my hair cut and he texted me like, ‘Let’s go to a movie!’ We hung out and spent every single day together that I’ve been in L.A. since then, since February.”
Their relationship started in 2017, and they were together for three years before they eventually called it quits in 2020.
Sarah Hyland And Wells Adams
Sarah Hyland and Wells Adams are currently gearing up to get married, but did you know that they too met after they messaged each other on social media?
“Have you seen those memes of ‘Slide into the DMs?’ That. He slid into my DMs,” Hyland revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live, when asked about the way she and her boyfriend met. “I was following him. We had tweeted each other because I thought he was funny and he was a fan of the show.”
And his response was everything! He replied, “Next time I’m in LA, I’m taking you out for drinks and tacos.”
Ariana Grande And Jai Brooks
Back in 2012 and 2013, Ariana Grande and Jai Brooks was everyone’s favorite couple. But it turns out, their relationship was strictly an online one for the first half — since he lived in Australia and she lived in the U.S. It’s been reported that she messaged him on Twitter after watching his hilarious YouTube videos, and they started texting and video chatting all the time. They finally met in person at the end of 2012, but unfortunately, they broke up a few months later.
Mandy Moore And Taylor Goldsmith
Mandy Moore and her hubby, Taylor Goldsmith, have been married since November 2018. And it turns out, they started talking after she praised his album online!
“I took a picture of their album and posted it on Instagram,” she told People Magazine back in 2017. “Somehow, Taylor saw it and sent a note to me. We started emailing back and forth, then we went on a date and the rest is history. Thanks Instagram, for helping me meet my fiancé!”
Austin Mahone And Katya Henry
Austin Mahone and Katya Henry dated back in 2016, and they too met over social media!
“I mean, it’s a classic new generation kind of meet up thing,” he once told E! News. “It’s crazy. I just think how funny it would be if I tell my kids one day I met her through Instagram. That will sound so funny.”
Unfortunately, they split in February 2017, and it’s still unclear what went wrong in the end.
