Charlie Sheen claims he had nothing to do with Denise Richards‘ recent exit from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast.

Over a week after Denise confirmed she was leaving the Bravo reality series after appearing in a full-time position for just two seasons, Charlie, the father of her two oldest daughters, said that when it comes to Denise’ career, he has nothing to do with the decisions she makes.

“She does what she wants in these matters,” Charlie told Page Six in a statement shared by his publicist, Jeffrey Ballard.

On September 9, just hours before the airing of the second installment of the three-part reunion for The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Denise revealed she was leaving the show. Denise had previously joined the cast in 2018 for the season nine.

While Denise did spend two seasons on the show, Charlie continued to speak of his ex-wife’s exit as she she appeared on just one season, telling the outlet, “I applaud her decision of ‘one and done.’”

During Denise’s time on the series, Charlie was mentioned on a number of occasions but never actually appeared on the series. Instead, Denise chose to spotlight her new life with husband Aaron Phypers, who she married on camera in September 2018, and her three kids, including her and Charlie’s girls, Sam and Lola, and her adopted daughter Eloise.

As fans will recall, Charlie was mentioned more during Denise’s second season with the show after she began complaining about the way the ladies continuously engaged in adult chatter, even when her children were close by. As some pointed out, it seemed a bit odd that Denise didn’t want her kids to hear about her co-stars’ sex lives and threesomes when the X-rated escapades of their father had been making headlines for decades.

Some cast members also noted that Denise herself had engaged in plenty of racy banter throughout season nine.

According to Page Six, supposed Bravo sources told them days ago that Denise left the show because the network was refusing to meet her demands for a salary increase for season 11.

Andy Cohen Confirmed He and Denise Richards Were Negotiating a Deal for ‘RHOBH’ Season 11 Before She Quit

Although sources close to Denise suggested that the actress actually left the show without so much as considering a conversation about a potential return, Andy Cohen has since confirmed that the two of them were in negations for a season 11 contract before Denise left the show.

During an interview with his assistant, Daryn Carp, on People TV’s Reality Check, Andy admitted that he was upset that he and Denise “couldn’t reach an agreement for next season.”

“I’m kind of living in that sadness. We were negotiating a deal with her and we couldn’t reach an agreement on the deal,” he explained to Daryn.

As for why he felt that Denise was done with The Real Houswives of Beverly Hills, Andy said that she may have left the show in an effort to protect her children and family from the ongoing controversy surrounding the nature of her relationship with cast mate Brandi Glanville.

“She is answering her truth and listen, she has a family and kids. So whatever happened or didn’t happen, I would imagine that it’s something that maybe she didn’t really care to discuss on a television show,” he suspected.

During an episode of the show earlier this year, Brandi told her co-stars, including Kyle Richards, Kim Richards, and Teddi Mellencamp, that she had engaged in an alleged affair with Denise after being told that she and Aaron had an open marriage. However, as Brandi also stated, she later was told that Denise and Aaron did not have an open marriage and that Aaron would “kill” Denise if he found out what happened between them.

While Denise denied Brandi’s claims several times throughout filming, the majority of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast was not convinced that she was being honest and the topic continued to resurfaced as episodes aired.

“The problem with the Housewives is once the cat’s out of the bag, it’s hard to put it back,” Andy explained of the repetitive storyline of the show. “So, that’s the challenge. Once something is out there, it’s out there and a lot of times it gets beat to death.”

Charlie Sheen Was Excited for Denise Richards to Join ‘RHOBH’

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight in August 2018, Charlie said that while he was not a viewer of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, he was happy to see that Denise was embarking on the full-time role.

“I don’t really watch that show,” he admitted. “But I know it’s a really popular and good for her. I’m sure it’s going to be a ball, you know?”

In the same report, it was noted that Denise was “excited” about her then-new gig.

“I’m a fan of the show, and I never saw myself [as] fancy enough to be one of the [Real Housewives] but I thought, ‘Why not?’” she recalled. “I’ve been through so much in my life and I’ve been very private about a lot of it and I thought, ‘I’m in a really good place and that would be fun to be a part of the show.’”

At the time Denise joined the cast, she was newly engaged to now-husband Aaron and preparing for a wedding near their home in Malibu. She was a close friend of longtime cast member Lisa Rinna and also knew a number of the other ladies, including Kyle Richards.

“I think they’re a great group of strong women and they have strong opinions and I love that,” she said of the women of the show. “I think, at the end of the day, they’re very supportive of each other. No matter what kind of little conflict might go on, they might fight a little bit like sisters, but they still support each other and I love that.”

Two years later, Denise is no longer friends with Lisa and when it comes to the rest of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast, she doesn’t appear to have kept in touch with anyone, aside from fellow actress Garcelle Beauvais, who had her back throughout season 10.

Denise Richards Addressed Her ‘Toxic’ Marriage to Charlie Sheen on ‘RHOBH’

In May of this year, Denise was seen opening up about her marriage to Charlie on an episode of the 10th season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

“It was a very dark time and very toxic and I filed for divorce when I was 6 months pregnant with [Lola],” Denise said of her now-15-year-old daughter, according to a report shared by Hollywood Life at the time. “I always did whatever I could to hide Charlie’s behavior. How do you tell kids what’s really going on? I would say ‘Dad has to go to work, but he loves you so much, he wants to be there for you girls.’”

According to Denise, there were rumors that she and Charlie had a “wild” relationship during their many years together but, as she explained, there wasn’t much truth to the reports.

“A lot of people have an impression of me being wild and crazy, but Charlie was sober when we got married so we were not this swinging couple like people might assume,” Denise told cameras in a cast confessional in May.

“We weren’t,” she added.
