Chris Rock Says His Peace Over Oscars Scandal

Unless you live under a rock you are very much aware that Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars. I mean, it was only on every headline. And, not long after, Smith was back on stage to accept the Best Actor award for his role in King Richard. Anywho, Rock has finally broken his silence on the whole situation and we can't help but wonder what's next for Smith.

Just In Case You Missed It

During the Oscars, Rock made a G.I. Jane joke towards Jada Pinkett Smith because of her green look and bald head. Obvious to say that her husband was not fond of it. Well, he was until he wasn't. The clip shows Smith initially laughing at the joke but, once he saw his wife's upset reaction, he took matters into his own hands.

The King Richard actor walked up on stage and smacked the comedian with every ounce of emotion in him. He then went back to his seat and repeatedly yelled towards Rock, "keep my wife's name out your f**king mouth."

The Repercussions For Will Smith

As if the internet spreading it like wildfire wasn't enough of a punishment (at least nowadays with how aggressive it can be) Smith has been facing backlash from the Academy as well.

After formally reviewing the altercation, Smith has been banned from the Oscars for 10 years. The President and CEO released a public statement to make it official.

The statement wrote, "The Board [of Governors] had decided, for a period of 10 years, from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards."

Will himself also released a statement initially following the event.

Smith immediately expressed his regret by writing to Instagram, "Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night's Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally." He continued to apologize to Chris Rock, "I would kike to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be, There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness."

Ok, You’re Wondering About Chris, We Know

The Academy's latest statement thanked Rock for handling the situation as he did. "We want to express our deep gratitude to Mr. Rock for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances," wrote a letter from the President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson.

It has also been made clear that Rock has declined to file charged with LAPD following the incident. But, that still hasn't stopped attorneys for sharing what he could file for.

An attorney pointed out that Chris "could sure Will for public humiliation and embarrassment. He could say the assault hurt his confidence and career. They would likely settle and amount instead of going to trial."

The attorney also added that "Chris could sue the academy. He can say they didn't provide proper security for him. As a performer on stage, he could argue he should've been protected."

The Shade Room shared a report that Rock has spoken out about the event BUT on how he doesn't plan to speak out on it. Their image captioned, "#ChrisRock performed at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on Friday, and he made one thing clear. 'I'm OK, I have a whole show, and I'm not talking about that until I get paid.' Chris told the sold out audience. 'Life is good. I got my hearing back.'"
