Tournament officials for the 2023 Cymbiotika San Diego Open Presented by ResMed have officially announced the participation of American tennis sensation Coco Gauff and Tunisian star Ons Jabeur. These two formidable athletes will grace the courts of the WTA 500 tournament, slated to run from Saturday, September 9 through Saturday, September 16 at the Barnes Tennis Center, located at 4490 W Point Loma Blvd, San Diego, CA 92107.
Coco Gauff, hailing from Delray Beach, Florida, has been making waves on the WTA Tour in recent months. Her remarkable achievements include clinching singles titles at the prestigious WTA 500 event in Washington and the esteemed WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati. Notably, in Cincinnati, she claimed victory over the reigning Cymbiotika San Diego Open champion, Iga Swiatek of Poland, who also happens to be the World No. 1. Their thrilling semifinal clash ended with Gauff prevailing at 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-4. This marked Coco Gauff’s first-ever win against Swiatek in their eight career head-to-head encounters.
At present, the 19-year-old Gauff holds the No. 6 spot in the WTA singles rankings. She previously achieved her career-high singles ranking at No. 4 in October of the previous year and also briefly held the prestigious title of the world’s No. 1 ranked doubles player in August 2022.
