Australian singer Cody Simpson has got a secret talent up his sleeves! Yep, the pop star just revealed that he’s been training for the olympics and that he qualified for his first ever olympic trials for swimming, and we couldn’t be more excited for him.
“I’d love to share this personal milestone and let you in on my current journey as an athlete that I’ve kept relatively low key until now. Growing up competing, and then inevitably having to cut my career short as 13 year old Australian champion when I was given an opportunity in music that I couldn’t refuse. I have had the chance to experience and learn so much as a musician from touring around the world, releasing albums, performing as a leading man on Broadway, publishing a work of poetry, traveling with and speaking at the United Nations on environmental and oceanic matters and much more. For this I will be forever grateful. Now almost exactly 10 years later, here I am once more,” he wrote on Instagram on Sunday, December 13. “For years I had been fueled by the silent fire in my stomach of returning to the sport of swimming, with the idea that 2020 would be the year I’d try training again. After only five months back in the water with my incredible coach @hawkebr, I was able to take out a win and secure a spot at next years Australian Olympic trials in the 100 fly.”
The musician continued, “It is my greatest ambition to expand the limit and perceived notion of what’s possible for someone to achieve in a single lifetime, and I’m here to tell you can do absolutely ANYTHING if you are willing to work for it. I’m looking forward to seeing where this all takes me on the long road ahead!”
Michael Phelps Had The Best Reaction
Michael Phelps, who is the most successful and most decorated Olympian of all time, caught wind of his post, and sent his support.
“Congrats man,” he wrote.
Other stars also commented, including Patrick Schwarzenegger, who wrote “Sick.” Outer Banks star Chase Stokes commented, “Let’s Go! Congrats my brothers!” and Jonah Marais from Why Don’t We also wrote, “Wow!”
Simpson’s mom, Angie Simpson, left a super sweet message under the post too.
“So proud of you my boy,” she commented.
And his sister, Alli Simpson, added, “Go off brother! Inspiration to all.”
This Isn’t The First Time He Spoke About His Love For Swimming
Simpson, whose parents are both award-winning swimmers too, has previously spoken out about his love for the sport.
“I was starting to get really serious with my swimming. I was the best in the country for my age in like every stroke,” he told HuffPost Live in 2013. “My coach was pretty disappointed when I told him I was coming over [to the U.S.] to take a shot at the music business.”
What Else Is Cody Simpson Up To These Days?
Besides becoming an olympic athlete, Simpson has also kept busy in the romance department! Yep, he was recently caught packing on the PDA with Marloes Stevens, and fans are so here for the new relationship.
In a series of photos obtained by JustJaredJr, the rumored new couple could be seen cozying up while having lunch in Malibu, CA, on November 4, 2020. And get this — she even gave the musician a kiss on the cheek at one point! Then, on November 10, 2020, they were photographed hanging out again — this time, the two stars rode on Simpson’s motorcycle together, while Stevens wrapped her arms around him.
But who is his new woman?! Marloes is a model who is currently signed by NTA Model Management and Elite Model Management NYC. She’s starred in campaigns for numerous big brands including Ralph Lauren and W Beauty — wow, talk about impressive. The new romance comes just a few months after he split from Miley Cyrus.

It turns out, the 23-year-old isn’t the only big star who you’d be shocked to learn is a secret athlete! This may come as a shock, but One Direction‘s Louis Tomlinson is actually a pretty good soccer player, and get this — he was signed by the U.K. team Doncaster Rovers of the Football League Championship on a non-contract basis in 2013. He even has his jersey number — 28 — tattooed into his fingers, so it’s clear that the sport is important to him. Plus, we bet you had no idea that his bandmate Niall Horan is an amazing golfer! He was asked to attend The Masters multiple times, he started his own golf company, called Modest! Golf, and he has even played alongside some of the biggest golf stars in the world.
