Da Brat pregnant

Once upon a time, Shawntae Harris (aka Da Brat) didn’t have babies on the brain.

They just weren’t part of her life’s plans. But that seems to have changed after the rapper announced that she and wife Jessica “Judy” Harris-Dupart are expecting their first baby together.

And the pictures are adorable.

Da Brat and Wifey Expecting a Little Bundle of Joy

48-year-old Harris and 41-year old Harris-Dupart exchanged their wedding vows in February of 2022.

Harris-Dupart is the CEO of Kaleidoscope Hair Products and they were in the process of launching a new line of products inspired by Da Brat and her iconic braids.
As a tongue-in-cheek pun about hair extensions, Harris told People, “It started as a joke, we were like, ‘We’re extending our family!’ But then we got a huge response. It was like, ‘Oh my God do we want to actually have kids, and if we do, girl, we better hurry up!’ “

Harris explains that they’ve learned a lot, telling the outlet, “It’s been quite a journey.” She adds, “there’s a lot of stuff we learned about women over the age of 40.”

People reports, “Harris-Dupart is already a mother of three prior to their relationship. For Da Brat, kids weren’t ever really a part of the plan. ‘I never thought I was going to have kids,’ she says. ‘I just thought it wasn’t in the cards for me. I’ve had a great career, a full life. I felt like, because I didn’t get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasn’t going to happen for me.’

That is, until she met and fell for Harris-Dupart. ‘I started looking at life so differently,’ says Da Brat. ‘I was like, I want a little me with you. Something special from the both of us that we can share and raise and love unconditionally.’

Still, she wasn’t keen on the idea of carrying a child. ‘I was like, nothing’s gonna come out of me!’ Harris-Dupart was able to convince her otherwise. ‘We had a little tug-o-war in the beginning…but I felt like she should have the experience,’ says her wife. ‘She is so nurturing.'”

And now, Harris is pregnant – and glowing.

Da Brat and Wife Walked Tough Road to Their Blessing

It turned out for the best as Harris-Dupart suffered a number of health complications following the egg retrival process.

But it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Da Brat either. She had to undergo fibroid and polyp removal surgery before they were able to transfer the embryos to her body.

Unfortunately, they experienced a miscarriage along the way. Harris shared, “I had never been so excited about something that I didn’t even know I wanted. I fell in love with the idea and then it was all snatched away from me.”

However, she adds, “luckily, we still had quite a few of her eggs left.”

They used an anonymous sperm donor described as “an eager entrepreneur” from their cryo bank.

Harris is now 18 weeks pregnant. She told People, “It’s just a blessing. I’m excited! I don’t have any cravings or nausea, but I’m always sleepy. It’s crazy!”

And those raging hormones are tough too, with Da Brat sharing, “Everything makes me cry. If someone wins American Idol, I cry. I’m like, I’m tougher than that!”

When the outlet asked how she felt about the contrast between her uber-tough hip hop persona and the image of a loving and doting mother, Da Brat says she’s embracing it, saying, “I think people are going to be shocked.”
