Chappelle, Bey and Kweli: Meet the Hosts

Dave Chappelle

Chappelle—one of the greatest comedians of all time—is also an actor, screenwriter, television and film producer. Throughout his devoted career, Chappelle earned over 30 nominations and awards in TV and film. Chappelle’s Show was his groundbreaking sketch comedy TV series. Additionally, he frequented Saturday Night Live with his guest appearances. He’s also known for his comedy specials, earning his third and fourth Emmy Awards for “Sticks & Stones.” Chappelle won a GRAMMY Award for Best Comedy Album three years in a row. Netflix even cited Dave Chappelle: Collection 1 as the most viewed comedy special on their network in 2017. Textbook killer comic.

Bey—better known by his stage name Mos Def—is an American rapper, singer, actor, multimedia artist, and activist. Bey’s career in hip hop emerged in 1994. Just a few years later, he released his solo debut, Black on Both Sides. This album was ranked #1 on the Billboard Top Rap Album chart. Additionally, Bey was nominated for six GRAMMY Awards for his musical performances, albums and videos. His success isn’t limited to music, however. Bey’s acting career secured him over 11 award nominations, including Golden Globes, Emmys and NAACP Image Awards

Kweli is a Brooklyn-based MC; one of the most lyrically gifted and politically insightful rappers of this generation. His past experiences include working with rapper and producer Hi-Tek as the duo Reflection Eternal. He has also collaborated with Kanye West and Pharrell Williams. Kweli’s business ventures include founding his independent record label, Javott Media in 2011. Already a veteran in the podcast game, Kweli partnered with UPROXX to launch People’s Party With Talib Kweli, where he explores hip hop culture and politics. In 2021, Kweli released his book Vibrate Higher, highlighting his upbringing and the power of hip hop as a political force.

The Making of The Midnight Miracle

“Making a podcast isn’t the obvious next move for me, but it’s the right one,” says Chappelle. “The Midnight Miracle gives you a look into how me and my friends process the world around us, and I think it will change the way listeners think of what a podcast can be.”

Chappelle recorded The Midnight Miracle podcast with Kweli and Bey during his 2020 Summer Camp. The trio recorded all their sessions at “The Shack,” a mechanic’s garage retrofitted as a clubhouse. They purposefully chose this location so that listeners get the sense that they’re sitting in on conversations among friends. The conversations are punctuated with sketches, impersonations and archival audio clips: standard variety show tradition. Additionally, the podcast features a powerful soundtrack including music from Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, D’Angelo, Heatwave ft. Johnny Wilder, and more.

Chappelle, Kweli, and Bey carefully edited more than 100 hours of recorded content for their podcast. The Miracle Mile is also a partnership with Jamie Schefman and Noah Gersh of SALTan audio-first media company that creates audio storytelling.

Dave Chappelle & Friends This Summer

Dave Chappelle

If you thought a podcast was all that this bold and poetically unfiltered man was bringing you, buckle up. The international comedian is bringing his latest live stand-up show to the Las Vegas Strip this summer. Dave Chappelle and Friends is coming to the MGM Grand Garden Arena Friday, July 2, 2021 at 8:00 pm. He will be the first headliner to perform at the venue since its reopening from pandemic protocols.

For Chappelle, the grind never really stops—he is arguably the most touring comic on the circuit. After performing more than 1,600 concerts worldwide in just the past four years, he’s still in the game. His standup specials always receive critical acclaim, and his comedic impact is multigenerational. “Whether it means having a show, or a movie, or just being on stage, I need an avenue to say what I have to say,” says Chappelle.

Chappelle is bringing his trademark wit and sharp, irreverent social commentary like always. He will dive into topics such as race, popular culture, sex, drugs, politics and fame.
