While Demi Lovato has had her share of struggles over the years, there was some great news for her two months ago. Specifically, Lovato announced that she was engaged to boyfriend Max Ehrich. Unfortunately, news has broken tonight that pair have split and called off their engagement. So what happened?
Back in March of this year, US Magazine confirmed that Lovato was dating Ehrich after she had split with short-time beau Austin Wilson. Fans had started to think that Lovato and Ehrich- who is an actor on the soap opera The Young and The Restless– were an item after they were leaving “flirty messages” on each other’s Instagrams.
At the time, a source confirmed to US Magazine that Lovato and Ehrich had “met a few weeks ago” and were indeed in a relationship that was “off to a strong start.”
Since the world has been going through a pandemic, the couple made their “public debut” by making a quick appearance in Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande’s music video for their hit song “Stuck With U.”
While they had only been together about a month at time, an insider spoke to US Magazine again in April to dish that Ehrich was already planning to propose to Lovato.
US’s insider at the time dished that “Max plans to propose to Demi after this whole pandemic is resolved and their families wouldn’t be surprised by the proposal. They think they make a great couple.”
The source that US Magazine had spoken to was certainly onto something, as Ehrich ended up proposing in July.
On Thursday, July 23rd, Lovato took to Instagram to share the happy news, writing that “When I was a little girl, my birth dad always called me his ‘little partner’ – something that might’ve sounded strange without his southern cowboy like accent. To me it made perfect sense. And today that word makes perfect sense again but today I’m officially going to be someone else’s partner”
“@maxehrich,” Lovato continued at the time, “I knew I loved you the moment I met you. It was something I can’t describe to anyone who hasn’t experienced it firsthand but luckily you did too.. I’ve never felt so unconditionally loved by someone in my life (other than my parents) flaws and all. You never pressure me to be anything other than myself. And you make me want to be the best version of myself. I’m honored to accept your hand in marriage. I love you more than a caption could express but I’m ecstatic to start a family and life with you. I love you forever my baby. My partner. Here’s to our future!!!!”
Ehrich also took to Instagram to comment on the engagement, writing that “Ahhhh You are every love song, every film, every lyric, every poem, everything I could ever dream of and then some in a partner in life. Words cannot express how infinitely in love with you I am forever and always and then some. I cannot spend another second of my time here on Earth without the miracle of having you as my wife. here’s to forever baby … I’m so excited. You are the most beautiful inside and out in the entire world & I couldn’t be more grateful God brought us together. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH @ddlovato AND WILL FOREVER CHERISH YOUR PURE, BEAUTIFUL, INFINITE SOUL.”
Sadly, today US Magazine has confirmed that the short-lived engagement has come to an end- and that Lovato and Ehrich are done.
People spoke to an insider who had more info to dish on what happened, stating that “It was a tough decision, but Demi and Max have decided to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers,” says the source. “They have respect and love for one another and will always cherish the time they spent together.”
E Online also had information to add to the reporting, noting that some of Lovato’s fans had thought something may be up since some of her close friends had unfollowed Ehrich on Instagram.
They also noted that an insider had previously told them that “People close to Demi have expressed that they are worried and are hesitant about Max” but also noted that Lovato “was head over heels for Max and doesn’t want to be heartbroken. She truly cares about Max and wants to think his intentions are genuine.”
As fans know, Lovato has struggled with sobriety issues in the past, but has been doing well as of late. Lovato was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder back in 2011.
