I spend my days with you, bare faced and in a bathing suit… I feel unconditionally loved and accepted by you in a way that I’ve never felt before… I can’t explain it or you… You’re indescribable, you beautiful man. The couple announced their engagement on July 23, 2020.

“I knew I loved you the moment I met you. It was something I can’t describe to anyone who hasn’t experienced it firsthand but luckily you did too… I’ve never felt so unconditionally loved by someone in my life (other than my parents) flaws and all,” Lovato gushed on Instagram. “You never pressure me to be anything other than myself. And you make me want to be the best version of myself. I’m honored to accept your hand in marriage. I love you more than a caption could express but I’m ecstatic to start a family and life with you. I love you forever my baby. My partner. Here’s to our future!”

Ehrich added in his own post, “You are every love song, every film, every lyric, every poem, everything I could ever dream of and then some in a partner in life. Here’s to forever baby. I’m so excited you are the most beautiful inside and out in the entire world and I couldn’t be more grateful. God brought us together I LOVE YOU SO MUCH @ddlovato AND WILL FOREVER CHERISH YOUR PURE, BEAUTIFUL, INFINITE SOUL.”

Lovato Said Ehrich Changed Her

While speaking to Vogue in September 2020, the Sonny With a Chance alum opened up about how. the relationship helped make her mindset most positive.

“My fiancé is so positive all the time, I just started picking up on the things he does,” she explained. “I started meditating and doing yoga. I started journaling, painting, taking pictures and being creative, and learning to appreciate nature, after realizing I’d been taking it for granted all this time.”

So What Went Wrong?

A few weeks later, alleged old tweets posted by Ehrich long before he started dating Lovato surfaced online. Alleged screenshots showed the musician gushing over Lovato’s ex-best friend Selena Gomez. One seemingly read, “Hahaha Selena Gomez and Demi are cute together, but boy, if you think Demi is prettier…You’re WRONG!”

But according to the singer, the messages were not real! She took to her Instagram Stories to clear the air, writing, “It’s really sad when people FAKE images to put women against each other…If women have conflict that’s between them NOT YOU.”

“While on one hand, I understand and have compassion for those who are so horrified at the reality of 2020 that they gotta distract themselves with doctored images in order to not focus on how bad these times are — but on the other hand, if you aren’t 13 years old trying to grasp the reality of right now, put on your adult underpants and write about what actually matters. Please,” she added.

But sources told E! News that she was “really upset” about the entire situation.

“She is head over heels for Max and doesn’t want to be heartbroken,” the insider added. “She truly cares about Max and wants to think his intentions are genuine. People close to Demi have expressed that they are worried and are hesitant about Max.”

Ehrich Claimed He Found Out About The Split Online

After news of their split hit the web, the actor took to his Instagram Stories to address it, and he claimed that he found out their engagement was over from articles he read online.

“Imagine finding out… the status of your relationship through a tabloid,” he wrote. “While you’re in the middle of filming a biopic movie about a pastor in a Christian church whose intention of the film is to help people.”

But a source told People Magazine, “Demi made Max aware that the relationship was over and it was going to come out in the press.”

Then, Ehrich doubled down on his claims.

“I was on the set of my new movie, Southern Gospel, with crew and cast members right next to me who literally watched me open my phone where I then opened a tabloid,” he wrote on Sunday, September 27 in another Instagram Stories post. “This is the God’s honest truth of how I found out about the ending of my engagement and have people from my film who saw the whole thing go down and helped me get back into character to continue my job.”

He also shared a screenshot of a text message he had sent to someone that read, “To find out over the internet was beyond anything I could’ve ever imagined a person could do to another human.”

Ugh, we really thought these two were going to be together forever.
