“The tea is … I am releasing an album and a documentary next year,” the brunette beauty said during a recent appearance on the “(Re)Session” podcast. “I’ve been working on this album since 2018 and my life has taken so many twists and turns since then, and it’s changed the direction, the sound, the story … I’m really excited to release all of this new music.”
A new album and a documentary?! Wow, this is the best news ever! But wait, when exactly is it going to come out, you ask? What is it going to sound like? Are there going to be any songs about her ex Max Ehrich on it? Has she released any tunes off of it yet? And has she shared the track list? Not to worry, you guys, because we rounded up everything you need to know about Lovato’s upcoming seventh studio album. Here’s all the details…
Demi Lovato First Revealed That She Was Working On Her Album In Last Year

Fans quickly went into a frenzy when Lovato first revealed that she was working on some new tunes in November 2019. She shared a snap of herself in the studio to her Instagram Stories, which she captioned, “Wouldn’t y’all like to hear… Recording a song for my loyal #Lovatics. The ones who support me and whatever makes me happy… If you hating — that ain’t you! BYE.”
For those who don’t know, this will be the “Sober” songstress’ first album under her new manager, Scooter Braun. Yep, Lovato was signed by the music mogul (who also manages Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande) in May 2019.
“GUYS! Dreams came true today for me. I officially have a NEW MANAGER!” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “And not just any new manager but the one and only @scooterbraun! Couldn’t be happier, inspired and excited to begin this next chapter with you Scooter! Thank you for believing in me and for being apart of this new journey. Let’s DO THIS!”

But When She Started Dating Max Ehrich, Her Plans Changed

Although she started working on the LP a while ago, after she started dating Ehrich earlier this year, her plans changed. As fans know, the two were first spotted cozying up in March 2020, and a few months later, they announced that they were engaged! But in September 2020, news hit the web that they had broken up, and the whirlwind romance came to an end.
“I’m in the process of working on it. I’m still going into the studio to write on it today. It took a different direction. Obviously my life has changed a lot,” Lovato previously dished to USA Today about the album. “It was a story about everything that had happened, and now it’s kind of evolving into where my life is at today. It’s beautiful to have your story to tell and I’m excited to incorporate that into my next project.”
Expect A Lot Of Songs About Her Recent Breakup

It sound like Lovato isn’t going to hold back on the new album! How do we know? Well, back in 2019, she wrote on her Instagram Stories, “You know what’s great about making an album? You get to say anything you want, be as open and honest as possible and finally tell your side of the story regardless of who might not like it.” Yes, please!
Demi Lovato Collaborated With Some Epic People On The New Album
Lovato revealed on Instagram that she worked with songwriter Bianca “Blush” Atterberry and Grammy-nominated producer Oak Felder on her seventh album — talk about a dream team!
“You are so essential to this album and I’m forever grateful for what we’ve created together,” the former Disney star gushed about Atterberry via her Instagram Stories. “We got f**king FIRE coming soon!”

She’s Already Released A Few Songs Off Of Her New Album

Although we don’t have the official track list for her new album just yet, Lovato has released a few songs throughout 2020, including “Anyone,” “I’m Ready,” “OK Not To Be OK,” “Still Have Me” and “Commander In Chief.” And many fans were shook over her song “Still Have Me,” since it seemed to be all about her split from Ehrich. The emotional piano balled, which came out one week after they went their separate ways, is all about learning to get over heartbreak and finding strength within yourself to move on.
“I’m a mess and I’m still broken / But I’m finding my way back / And it feels like someone’s stolen / All the light I ever had,” the powerful lyrics read. “Like the world disappeared / And I’m laying right here / While the silence is piercing / And it hurts to breathe / I don’t have much but at least I still have me (I still have me) / And that’s all I need / So take my faith but at least I still believe (I still believe) / And that’s all I need.”
The song “Anyone” also made headlines, since it was recorded right before her accidental drug overdose in July 2018.
“I almost listen back and hear these lyrics as a cry for help,” Lovato told New Music Daily With Zane Lowe about the song. “And you kind of listen back to it and you kind of think, How did nobody listen to this song and think, ‘Let’s help this girl?’ I was recording it in a state of mind where I felt I was okay, but clearly I wasn’t. I even listen back to it and I’m like, ‘Gosh, I wish I could go back in time and help that version of myself.’”
“A hundred million stories / And a hundred million songs / I feel stupid when I sing / Nobody’s listening to me / Nobody’s listening / I talk to shooting stars / But they always get it wrong / I feel stupid when I pray / So, why am I praying anyway?” she sings in it. “If nobody’s listening / Anyone, please send me anyone / Lord, is there anyone? / I need someone, oh / Anyone, please send me anyone / Lord, is there anyone? / I need someone.”
We can’t wait to hear the rest of the album.
