Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton do not appear to be on speaking terms these days. But despite the tensions between them, Markle may have just given her estranged sister-in-law a loving nod. In a video ad starring the American actress, Markle seemed to summon the ghost of their friendship past. And it has people wondering if an end to the royal duo’s feud is on the horizon.

Meghan And Kate Have A Tense Relationship

The relationship between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton has always been a rollercoaster. The two met in 2017, when Markle was first dating Kate’s brother-in-law, Prince Harry. It was clear from the beginning that they came from very different worlds.

Nonetheless, Markle won her future sister-in-law over by bonding with Princess Charlotte during their first meeting at Kensington Palace. Kate reportedly told Meghan that she could contact her if she needed anything. And, at the time, Prince Harry reported that his family was warmly welcoming his new love interest.

At the end of 2017, Kate said she was “thrilled” to learn of Meghan and Harry’s engagement. The three of them along with Prince William were photographed together that Christmas as they enjoyed the holidays as a young growing family. As the foursome made public appearances and Meghan and Harry tied the knot, things seemed to be going well between the new sisters-in-law. Then in July of 2018, Meghan and Kate were photographed together at Wimbledon. Meghan was wearing a striped blouse, and the two seemed to be enjoying their time out and about together.

But by the end of 2018, rumors were starting to emerge that Markle made Middleton cry during a dress fitting appointment ahead of Meghan and Harry’s wedding. Meghan would later claim in an Oprah interview that the rumors were reversed from the truth; that it was Kate who in fact made Meghan cry.

Over the next few years, the two royal couples drifted further apart. As Meghan and Harry left the royal life behind, Kate and William seemed to take the decision personally. And Meghan and Harry were hurt that the duo did not support them more. Kate Middleton has tried to play the neutral party. However, it’s clear that her relationship with Meghan Markle has not improved over the years.

That’s why fans of the royal family are so surprised to see what some are calling a nod from Meghan to her estranged sister-in-law. The surprising move comes in a Fisher House Foundation video ad for which Meghan filmed a voiceover. In the ad, Meghan talks about the community that surrounds soldiers and veteran servicemembers.

A brief clip focuses on the American actress. And in that clip, Meghan is wearing the same striped shirt that she wore to her first appearance at Wimbledon with Kate. While it could just be a coincidence, the royals rarely dress by mistake. As Harry and Williams’ mother Princess Diana proved, and later King Charles’ Queen Consort Camilla, what you wear can say more than words.

Does this mean that Meghan Markle is making a peaceful overture towards Kate Middleton, and the two could soon patch things up? It seems unlikely. While they may at least come to frosty good terms, they’ve never been the best of friends. Then again, never say never.
