Disney Animation Brings Immersive Exhibit To Select Cities in Early 2023

A brand new and immersive experience is bringing your favorite Walt Disney movies and characters to life. The news goes well beyond a simple rerelease of a beloved Disney film in theaters, it is so much more spectacular than that.

The attraction and its details are right in the name. The Disney Animation Immersive Experience is just that – immersive. That means fans will get to saturate themselves in the family friendly films that are part of everyone's childhood. Specifically, the Disney Animation Immersive Experience lets fans walk, or waltz, up to their most cherished characters. Imagine walking alongside Olaf from Frozen, or witnessing up close Simba being shown off to his future kingdom in Lion King. With Disney Animation Immersive Experience you can live out both fantasies or choose from many more films in the Disney library.

And the technology truly is trailblazing. Global Creative Director of Lighthouse Immersive, David Korins, said, "Just imagine journeying through Zootopia with Judy Hopps, diving to the ocean floor with Ariel, flying on a magic carpet with Aladdin, and stepping into Casita with Mirabel and the family Madrigal. This is where the Disney Animation: Immersive Experience will take you."

Disney is reported to be creating new animation just for the exhibit. However, no specific details on which films or characters would be getting the immersive experience treatment (we are crossing our fingers for lots of Coco). What we do know is that guests will be able to see their favorite Disney films and characters all the way back to their early sketches through to the movie's final product.

The creative team for the Disney Animation Immersive Experience is led by Oscar®-winning producer J. Miles Dale (The Shape of Water) who said, “Trailblazing in a new medium is always exciting, and this is truly going to be the most challenging and rewarding project of my career. With such a wealth of material and a treasure trove of memorable characters, it will be a thrill to bring the work of all the great Disney animators and performers to life in a 360-degree immersive environment.”

The immersive experience is the result of a partnership between both Walt Disney Animation and Lighthouse Immersive Studios. For context, It is Lighthouse that is responsible for the Immersive Van Gogh exhibits that are set up across the nation. The concept is similar for both in that visitors will get to lose themselves in the art of it all.

With the Van Gogh exhibits, visitors get an up close look at every brush stroke, every color and every minute detail of Van Gogh’s most popular work. That includes Les Mangeurs de pomme de Terre (The Potato Eaters, 1885), La Nuit étoilée (Starry Night, 1889), Les Tournesols (Sunflowers, 1888), and La Chambre à coucher (The Bedroom, 1889).

Now imagine that same idea and execution with your favorite Disney movie.

Similar to the Van Gogh exhibits, the Disney Animation Immersive Experience will be set up in cities across the country. First up is Toronto in December. Then, in early 2023 several cities across the United States will host the experience. They include: Cleveland, Nashville, Detroit, Denver, Boston, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Minneapolis and Columbus.

Ticket prices haven’t been released just yet, But on a search for the Nashville experience we found the Disney Animation Immersive Experience starting at $29.99. There are group tickets available as well as VIP options too. Opening dates for all of the cities have not been announced yet.
