Dixie D’Amelio is an internet sensation, alongside sister Charli D’Amelio. The sisters have managed to corner the influencer market on TikTok, amassing nearly 175 million followers between them. But Dixie isn’t content to dance her way to fame; she’s also taken a foray into the world of music. D’Amelio’s previous single releases were well received, so now she’s going for a triple threat with the release of her new single, Psycho, featuring Rubi Rose.
Dixie’s Newest Single
Psycho is D’Amelio’s third single release and sixth song release, and if the other two singles were any hint of success, the newest song will be an instant hit. The elder D’Amelio sister’s music career has been her focus over the past year, and it’s paying off. D’Amelio released her first single “Be Happy” in June of 2020, and it was immediately flooded with love from fans. It pulled in over 100 million views on YouTube, setting the stage for her second single release.
MavenBuzz reports, “Co-written by Olivia O’Brien, Delacey, M-Phazes, and MAG, ‘F***BOY’ follows ‘Be Happy,’ ‘Naughty List (with Liam Payne),’ ‘One Whole Day (featuring Wiz Khalifa),’ and ‘Roommates’ as Dixie’s fifth official song release.”
So what is the newest song about? Well, it’s just as juicy as her other songs. The lyrics suggest that wayward lovers should beware, there’s a “psycho” lurking beneath the perfect surface. “Might go psycho. If you let go. There’s a side of me that you don’t know. If you fool me, then you’ll see something that ain’t pretty. There’s a side of me that you don’t know.”
The song continues, “Lyin’ to my face, told me she was a friend. Saturday night and you’re at it again. Keep pulling this shit, you’re pushing me close to the edge. You turn me to a psycho. Looking for some dirt in your old phone. Talking to the girls that you might know. Never really thought I’d be the type, though. You turned me to a psycho.”
Phew, okay Dixie! It’s a clear declaration of war against anyone who might cheat on the 19-year-old or make her wonder about their loyalty. Considering how public D’Amelio’s relationships have been, fans are going to be wondering who she’s talking about. Of course, she could just be saying it in general, “don’t mess with me!” – but it sounds pretty personal. It’s an instant anthem for anyone who has ever been cheated on or given reason to wonder, and especially those who were gaslit after the fact.
The swooping beat and flawless melody – Dixie has a beautiful voice – makes it catchy and easy to get stuck in your head.
Rose‘s contribution to the song proves that, once again, Dixie has secured another superstar collab. The rapper/model has a solid fanbase for her music, but also an impressive social media following. Rose has almost 3 million followers on Instagram alone, and her account is full of the talented songwriter showing off her assets. Rose has a confident, unabashed style and a talent for catchy songs.
Like D’Amelio, Rose is at the start of her rise to music superstardom, but she’s getting there quickly. Rose’s first big hit came in 2019 in the form of her song, “Big Mouth,” and she made a cameo appearance in Cardi B’s “WAP.” Rose is signed with Hitco Entertainment.
What’s in the Future for Dixie?
Dixie doesn’t look to be slowing down on her music career any time soon. With so many beloved songs already under her belt, she’s officially made the turn from influencer to influencer/singer. While sister Charli has mulled over the possibility of leaving social media because people are such awful bullies, Dixie has shaken it off altogether.
Dixie is likely to stay focused on producing more music, and we could hear more from her this year.
