Former President Donald Trump is placing the blame for the war in Israel squarely on the 2020 election, which he claims was “stollen” from him. After finding himself under fire for criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the former President is turning people’s attention back to his favorite cause: the 2020 election Although it has been three years since the mid-COVID election, Trump still finds ways to tie most ills in his life back to that fateful day in November. But the new claim that the 2020 election is a direct cause of the violence in Israel is a new one.

Trump Criticizes Bibi – And Raises Questions

Former President Donald Trump is on the defensive now after receiving backlash for his criticism of Netanyahu. His comments about the Prime Minister paint a stark contrast between himself and nearly every other 2024 hopeful. America has taken a staunch pro-Israel stance as the violence between Israel and Hamas escalates. So Trump’s recent comments have raised more than a few eyebrows. But like many things with Trump, it seems like a personal vendetta.

Trump spoke before a fractious crowd in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Wednesday. There, he went off the GOP’s beaten path to level criticism at Netanyahu, known as “Bibi.” Trump told the crowd, “I’ll never forget that Bibi Netanyahu let us down. That was a very terrible thing. So we were disappointed by that. Very disappointed. But we did the job ourself. It was absolute precision, magnificent, beautiful job.” He then complained, “And then Bibi tried to take credit for it. That didn’t make me feel too good. But that’s all right.”

Trump has long been critical of Netanyahu after the Israeli leader acknowledged the win of Joe Biden in 2020. And it would seem that his ire with the PM has come home to roost again. But Trump may be painting himself in a corner of trouble because evangelical voters overwhelmingly support Israel. And criticism of the country’s leader is often seen as antisemitic. Trump can ill afford to anger evangelicals as he looks to shore up a shaky voter base ahead of midterm elections.

Today, Donald Trump took to Truth Social to blame the 2020 election for the attacks by Hamas and the resulting counter-violence coming from Israel.

Trump wrote, “THE ATTACK ON ISRAEL WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED, ZERO CHANCE, IF THE ELECTION OF 2020 WAS NOT RIGGED AND STOLLEN. IT SHOWS THE WORLD HOW IMPORTANT ELECTIONS ARE. IRAN WAS BROKE AND TALKING, NOW THEY ARE RICH AND WATCHING, WAITING TO MAKE THEIR MOVE, AND IT WILL BE A BIG ONE!”

He added, “HOW COULD CROOKED JOE BIDEN, THE WORST AND MOST INCOMPETENT PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES, ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN? WE WENT FROM THE ABRAHAM ACCORDS AND PEACE, TO UNPRECEDENTED DEATH AND DESTRUCTION.” The former POTUS concluded, “NEVERTHELESS, THIS BIG AND VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM IS SOLVABLE. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

The business mogul’s attempt to paint the 2020 election as the cause of the violence may seem incongruous, but it aligns with his principles. Trump’s greatest hope is convincing voters that he was the rightful winner of the 2020 election. And if he can tie in his loss with the horrors unfolding in Gaza, that’s a two-fer win for the former POTUS.  But making the war a personal political point may not work out so well in Trump‘s favor. It’s a long odds bet, but one the business titan hopes will distract from his rift with Netanyahu.
