Donald Trump Pins Blistering Takedown at the Top of Truth Social as He Smells Blood in the Water

Donald Trump has pinned a blistering video takedown of his biggest rival on Truth Social, and it’s a reminder that the general election is right around the corner – much to everyone’s chagrin.

Over the past few days, things have been relatively calm on the Donald Trump front.

The former POTUS has been able to take a bit of a sigh of relief as he settles into the mantle of “first President to be arrested and criminally indicted” and awaits his fate with the other circling criminal investigations.

But being able to breathe a little doesn’t mean he’s been idle.

Trump has gone on the offense against the person he once saw as his greatest rival for the 2024 Republican nomination – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Donald Trump Smells Weakness Around Ron DeSantis

This year’s run up to the general election could the politically bloodiest yet.

That’s because Trump is trying to clear the path to securing the GOP nomination again, and he’s taking down all comers.

And DeSantis, once seen as Trump’s biggest threat to running in the general, is wavering – giving the former POTUS a chance to go for the jugular, which he is doing.

DeSantis may be a prime example of an Icarus politician – he flew too high and close to the sun, and he’s flaming out before reaching his goal. Trump sees the flame-out happening, and he’s exploiting any of DeSantis’s weaknesses to remind voters why he isn’t a better choice.

DeSantis picked a fight with Disney, which was briefly popular with his base because he was defending Conservative values, but then the fight just got silly. It became clear that DeSantis was using the state government to engage in a petty personal vendetta against the House of Mouse, and people’s interest in supporting him through it started to wane quickly.

A red supermajority in Florida is also cracking down on gay and transgender rights, as well as severely curtailing abortion restrictions. While this may have been a smart move to energize the conservative base 10 years ago, it’s political suicide now.

Even among conservatives, support for LGBTQ individuals is rising, and a significant majority of Americans believe that people should have the right to access abortion.

GOP megadonors have recently distanced themselves from DeSantis too, claiming his book banning and other extremist views are too far and won’t play well in a general election among a less red population.

It would seem that the Florida governor’s lack of charm and bullheaded blitz politicking have finally lost him the momentum he gained in 2018.

A Blistering Takedown Greets Visitors to Trump’s Truth

Trump is seizing on the growing disaffection among DeSantis voters and hoping to bring them back into his camp. The former POTUS has returned to his original MAGA platform, and it seems to be wooing Republicans away from the Florida governor.

If you load Trump’s Truth Social account today, you are greeting by his latest volley against the governor, and it’s a doozy.

In the video, a narrator explains, “Ron DeSantis was struggling big time in his primary race for governor of Florida. Polls revealed DeSantis was failing so bad, he was losing by a staggering 17 points. Then, DeSantis was saved by the endorsement of President Trump. Trump’s support was so powerful, just two days after the endorsement, DeSantis took a commanding lead and it propelled him to being elected governor.”

Then the video plays a clip of DeSantis thanking Trump after the election, saying, “I’d like to thank our President for standing by me when it wasn’t necessarily the smart thing to do.”

The voiceover continues, “You’re welcome, Ron. Unfortunately, instead of being grateful, DeSantis is now attacking the very man who saved his career. Isn’t it time DeSantis remembers how he got to where he is?”

The video then shows DeSantis reading a book to his young child and quoting Trump, “Make America Great Again. Big League. So good. Build the wall. Then Mr. Trump said, ‘You’re fired!’ I love that part.”

Perhaps most interestingly, DeSantis actually hasn’t been doing too much public attacking of Trump – he wants to still woo the MAGA base, and Trump’s power remains strong with the diehards.

The next most logical reason Trump would accuse DeSantis of attacking the former POTUS would be if a DeSantis announcement for 2024 is nigh – something that once scared the Trump team a lot more than it does now.
