Donald Trump is often accused of lying or obfuscating the truth when it’s politically or personally expedient.
But a new round of lies coming from the former POTUS has even supporters stopping and scratching their head.
Trump, sounding completely unhinged, took to Truth Social yesterday to say that he’d been completely “exonerated” by the Georgia grand jury report.
But nothing of the sort has happened.

Donald Trump Says Donald Trump ‘Exonerated’
On Thursday, the grand jury from Georgia tasked with investigating claims of attempts at election interference in 2020 released a report.
The report was short, and summed up just one major aspect of the investigation.
The report explained that the grand jury has reason to believe that multiple witnesses perjured themselves while providing testimony – that is to say that they lied under oath.
The report goes on to conclude that criminal charges should be brought against those who committed perjury.
Trump decided to take the report – which says nothing exonerating about the former President – and claim that it’s proof he did nothing wrong.
Sounding completely unhinged and speaking in the third person, Trump took to Truth to write, “The long awaited important sections of the Georgia report, which do not even mention President Trump’s name, have nothing to do with the President because President Trump did absolutely nothing wrong. The President participated in two perfect phone calls regarding election integrity in Georgia, which he is entitled to do – in fact, as President, it was President Trump’s Constitutional duty to ensure election safety, security, and integrity….”
He added, “….Between the two calls, there were many officials and attorneys on the line, including the Secretary of State of Georgia, and no one objected, even slightly protested, or hung up. President Trump will always keep fighting for true and honest elections in America!”
Trump then thanked the grand jury for something they most certainly did not do in the recently released report, writing, “Thank you to the Special Grand Jury in the Great State of Georgia for your Patriotism & Courage. Total exoneration. The USA is very proud of you!!!”
The report, it should be noted, does in fact not name Trump – but then it doesn’t name anyone. And there is certainly no mention of anyone’s exoneration or suggestion that people are innocent.
It’s a weird attempt for Trump to control the narrative, and a bold slap in the face to supporters who are expected to believe the opposite of what they can observe themselves in the report’s pages.
The Independent reports on the reaction across the internet; “‘Wow, I am floored over and over again on the ignorance of people. And the manipulation is beyond me … No where does the grand jury say he is innocent,’ Bonnie Christopher added.
‘Here’s the thing. Trump doesn’t care about winning. He already knows he’s a loser. He just needs people to think he’s da boss. It’s why he always lies. So, ‘Not going to jail right now’ puts him in his ‘happy enough’ place. He’s thinking like every small-time loser,’ Nathan Standing wrote.
‘Georgia Grand Jury says looks like members of Trump’s inner circle committed perjury. And Trump’s claim of voter fraud was non existent. Trump claims he was totally exonerated. As always Trump is full of s***,’ actor and filmmaker Rob Reiner said.
CNN legal analyst Norm Eisen noted that the grand jury report stated that ‘we find by an unanimous vote that no widespread fraud took place in Georgia 2020 presidential election that could result in overturning that election’.
‘The GA special grand jury has spoken–that means Trump committed crimes. He’s gonna get indicted,’ Mr Eisen said.”
Donald Trump Starting to Come Unglued Over January 6
This isn’t the first time in even the last week that he’s sounded completely out of touch with reality.
Much of what Trump says it’s clear that he does not actually believe.
But a new defense for his involvement with January 6 sounds completely hollow and desperate – and it’s a sign that the former President is both coming unglued around January 6 and completely desperate for any defense to land.
The Daily Beast reports, “With a potentially damaging report about Donald Trump’s election meddling set to be unsealed, the former president on Tuesday released a rambling statement citing ‘exonerating tweets’ that he claimed show he wasn’t culpable for the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. In the 10-page document, ‘A STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP ON THE WITCH HUNT OF JANUARY 6th,’ Trump highlighted tweets sent on Jan. 6, 2021, in which he called for calm among his followers. “I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence!’ one reads. Another asks his fans to support Capitol law enforcement. ‘They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!’ it says. ‘It is doubtful that any President has ever been so clear or concise about wanting peace and harmony, and certainly not conflict,’ Trump writes in the statement.”
Trump then goes on to add, “My Speech, Statements, and Tweets are absolute proof that I acted legally and appropriately in addition to the fact that, as President, I have Complete and Total Immunity.”
But as he desperately swings the defense and hopes someone believes him, Trump is leaving out the fact that his speech also included warnings such as, “if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore,” and telling people that the election was, “stolen by emboldened radical-left Democrats.”
As usual, Trump’s constant activity on social media may be working against him rather than in his favor – but either he’s unaware or unwilling to admit that sometimes the best strategy is silence.
