Things have gone from bad to worse for former President Donald Trump.
On Thursday, news broke that the former POTUS was being charged with 38 federal felonies.
Those felonies include willful retention of national defense information, conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding a document or record, corruptly concealing a document or record, concealing a document in a federal investigation, scheme to conceal and false statements and representations.
On Friday, CNN reported that they had obtained the transcript for a so-called “Trump tape” which prosecutors had possession of. In the tape, Trump is heard bragging about his possession of classified documents – documents which he acknowledges are classified, which destroys his defense that he had declassified them.
At one point, a source familiar with the tape’s contents says, Trump acknowledged, “As president, I could have declassified it, but now I can’t.”

And he crowed, “Secret. This is secret information,” adding, “Look, look at this … This was done by the military and given to me.”
And perhaps in response to revelations about the tapes, Trump’s lawyers are done.
Reuters reports, “The surprise announcement by Trump’s lawyers John Rowley and Jim Trusty could prompt further legal complications ahead of Trump’s scheduled appearance in federal court in Miami on Tuesday in the documents case.
‘This morning we tendered our resignations as counsel to President Trump,’ the two lawyers said in a statement. ‘It has been an honor to have spent the last year defending him, and we know he will be vindicated.’
Trump said on social media that he was being represented by white collar defense lawyer Todd Blanche.”
Trump wrote on Truth, “For purposes of fighting the Greatest Witch Hunt of all time, now moving to the Florida Courts, I will be represented by Todd Blanche, Esq., and a firm to be named later. I want to thank Jim Trusty and John Rowley for their work, but they were up against a very dishonest, corrupt, evil, and ‘sick’ group of people, the likes of which has not been seen before. We will be announcing additional lawyers in the coming days. When will Joe Biden be Indicted for his many crimes against our Nation? MAGA!”
And around the same time, news broke that a top Trump aide, Walt Nauta, would be indicted in the classified documents investigation as well.
Trump also wrote about that on Truth, saying, “I have just learned that the ‘Thugs’ from the Department of Injustice will be Indicting a wonderful man, Walt Nauta, a member of the U.S. Navy, who served proudly with me in the White House, retired as Senior Chief, and then transitioned into private life as a personal aide. He has done a fantastic job! They are trying to destroy his life, like the lives of so many others, hoping that he will say bad things about ‘Trump.’ He is strong, brave, and a Great Patriot. The FBI and DOJ are CORRUPT!”
Trump may be trying to play it cool, but it’s clear that the walls are rapidly closing in.
And his 62+ post frenzy on Truth in just over 12 hours prove that he’s feeling the crush, even if he pretends otherwise.
Trump will appear in court on Tuesday, one day before his 77th birthday.
