Throughout both of his most recent campaigns for president and his 4-year administration, Donald Trump enjoyed superstar status on exactly one network without fail: Fox News.
While other mainstream media sources ebbed and flowed in their coverage and support, Fox has always been steadfast and stood by the former president's side.
Now though, the network may be leaving him in the dust for the next favorite child: Ron DeSantis.
Is the Storybook Romance Over?
It's something most people thought they'd never see; air time dedicated to how Trump is no longer the heart of the party.
In a 3-minute video that has since gone viral, Fox News aired a clip of Trump supporters talking about the fact that, although they still like the business mogul and former president, they think it's time for a new dog in the big house.
In the video, interviewed supporters explain, "I like what he stands for … but he upset too many people, and he upset them really bad. So I don't think he's really good for the party."
One supporter suggested that he should get back in and finish what he started – but the rest didn't equivocate.
One supporter says, "I would like to see him not run," and another adds, "If he did, I would vote for him, but I would not recommend he runs. I voted for Trump both times, and I love him. I think he's a good candidate. But I think his time is past."
Other people suggest that him running for re-election is not good, and that he's too polarizing of a figure to be good for the country. Then, the endgame is revealed; one supporter explains that he would like to see DeSantis run.
The rest of the clip shows supporters explaining why they believe DeSantis would be the better candidate.
Fox May Be Backing a Different Horse – or Two?
It's clear that the writing is on the wall: Fox is on to the next Republican darling.
And the video appears to be their attempt to bring Trump supporters along in the transformative journey that is a switch from Trump to DeSantis.
Of course, DeSantis isn't the only potential 2024 hopeful that Fox could get behind, they have a much more homegrown option that's been making headlines recently: Tucker Carlson.
The divisive Fox News commentator has suggested recently that he might run for president in 2024, and it's a sign that even Trump's most steadfast holdouts are beginning to shift against him.
The more public opinion turns, the more desperate Trump will be to announce his nomination asap and get the ball rolling – which could devastate Republican midterms this fall.
