Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social with a rant shortly after his legal team met with lawyers for the Department of Justice.

A decision seems to be creeping closer for special counsel Jack Smith as to whether or not to indict former POTUS Donald Trump and/or his cohorts over classified documents that he allegedly refused to turn over to the National Archives.

Two weeks ago, lawyers on team Trump requested a meeting with Attorney General of the US Merrick Garland.

They wished to raise concerns about what they called “prosecutorial misconduct” and overreach by Smith’s investigative team.

However, it’s fairly standard practice for a defense attorney to meet with Justice Department officials to try to persuade them not to bring criminal charges. So the request for a meeting has fueled rampant speculation that charges are not only likely, they’re imminent.

Now, three lawyers from Trump’s team – James Trusty, John Rowley and Lindsay Halligan – have met with DOJ lawyers, although it does not appear that Garland was present for today’s meeting.

There is no confirmation on who did attend from the Justice Department.

After they left the DOJ building in Washington on early Monday, they got into a black SUV and declined to answer questions from attending media.

Shortly after the meeting ended, Trump took to Truth Social with a rage, signaling that the meeting likely did not go well for his team of lawyers.

Trump wrote on Truth in all caps, “HOW CAN DOJ POSSIBLY CHARGE ME, WHO DID NOTHING WRONG, WHEN NO OTHER PRESIDENT’S WERE CHARGED, WHEN JOE BIDEN WON’T BE CHARGED FOR ANYTHING, INCLUDING THE FACT THAT HE HAS 1,850 BOXES, MUCH OF IT CLASSIFIED, AND SOME DATING BACK TO HIS SENATE DAY WHEN EVEN DEMOCRAT SENATORS ARE SHOCKED.”

Then, Trump tried to point to his 2016 rival and her husband, writing, “ALSO, PRESIDENT CLINTON HAD DOCUMENTS, AND WON IN COURT. CROOKED HILLARY DELETED 33,000 EMAILS, MANY CLASSIFIED, AND WASN’T EVEN CLOSE TO BEING CHARGED! ONLY TRUMP – THE GREATEST WITCH HUNT OF ALL TIME!”

However, Trump frequently neglects to mention that the circumstances surrounding the events are all different.

For instance, it was representatives for Biden who alerted the DOJ to the discovery of classified documents that the President had stored, and they consented to voluntary FBI searches.

Whereas in the Trump document investigation, the FBI had to obtain a search warrant and recovered an additional 100 documents after Trump’s team was uncooperative and potentially obstructed the investigation by deceit.

The grand jury for Smith’s investigation into the Mar-a-Lago documents has been meeting, and the investigation seems to be nearing its end.

That means that if charges are going to be made, they will likely come soon.

Trump is also looking at potential summer indictments from Georgia, where a grand jury was looking into whether or not Trump and his cohorts tried to overturn the 2020 election results by nefarious (and illegal) means.

It’s not clear exactly when charges will come from Smith, if he chooses to make any, but Fani T Willis, overseeing the investigation in Georgia, seems poised to issue indictments between now and early to mid-July.
