Former President Donald Trump is facing arraignment today, and will arrive at the court house at 3pm EST.

The former POTUS is facing 37 felony counts in a federal indictment over his alleged mishandling of classified documents after he left the White House in January 2021.

31 of those charges stem from alleged violations of the Espionage Act – designed to safeguard American secrets and protect our intelligence agents and most sensitive information.

So far, Trump has tried throwing a number of defenses at the wall.

Some of the most memorable defenses include that he could have declassified the documents at any time simply by thinking they are declassified.

However, a tape recorded interview of the former President speaking with a reporter in his Bedminster, New Jersey, resort in 2021 puts that theory to rest.

Because, in the recording, Trump supposedly says that he “could have declassified” those documents while as President, but “didn’t.”

Other defenses include that it’s all made up, a “witch hunt” or “hoax.”

Now, he’s accusing special counsel Jack Smith, who is overseeing the investigation and drafted the indictment for a grand jury to vote on, of “planting” information.

Early on Tuesday, Trump took to Truth Social to refer to a post about who Smith is, sharing it and adding the caption, “This is the Thug, over turned consistently and unanimously in big cases, that Biden and his CORRUPT Injustice Department stuck on me. He’s a Radical Right Lunatic and Trump Hater, as are all his friends and family, who probably ‘planted’ information in the ‘boxes’ given to them. They taint everything that they touch, including our Country, which is rapidly going to HELL!”

It is, of course, a very serious accusation. If true, it would completely blow the indictment charges out of the water and turn the case against the former President upside-down.

But Trump has never really denied that there was classified information in the boxes – all along, he has acknowledged that there was sensitive information at his Florida home.

But now he’s trying to say that that information, which he has previously claimed to know about, was “planted.”

It’s another sign that the former President is increasingly desperate today on arraignment day.

Leading up to the arraignment, the former President went on a Truth Social posting frenzy.

He posted a serious of short rants, including, “WITCH HUNT!,” followed by, “ELECTION INTERFERENCE!,” “AMERICA FIRST!” and “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump then briefly stopped to muse about the merger between LIV Golf and the PGA tour, writing, “I wonder if the PGA players who didn’t heed my advice and take the massive amounts of money that was offered to them by LIV Golf, feel somewhat ‘stupid’ right now. I predicted a MERGER, and that is exactly what happened, but whether LIV succeeded or failed, what the hell did they have to lose (except for some bull…. fed to them by highly paid PGA executives!). Plenty, in fact, more money than they will ever be able to make again. Anyway, enjoy the game!”

But he quickly returned to his pre-arraignment rants, writing, “ONE OF THE SADDEST DAYS IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY. WE ARE A NATION IN DECLINE!!!”

Trump was arraigned one day before his 77th birthday.
