Donald Trump arraigned Tuesday

We now know the day that Donald Trump will arrive in New York for arraignment: Tuesday.

The Seattle Times reports, “Former President Donald Trump is set to be arraigned Tuesday after his indictment in New York City, court officials said Friday. Trump’s planned surrender will usher in the unprecedented scenario of a former U.S. commander-in-chief being arrested and arraigned.”

During his arraignment, Trump will be formally advised of the charges filed by the State. The defendant is also informed of the right to an attorney during an arraignment.

Generally arraignments happen close on the heels of an arrest, and Trump is expected to turn himself in peacefully. He will be fingerprinted, and a mugshot taken. A perp walk seems unlikely, but the former POTUS reportedly wants to be handcuffed for the optics.

These are uncharted waters for the United States, and what will happen is really up in the air – and a lot depends on how compliant Trump and his legal team are with the New York District Attorney’s requests.

Trump has long called the investigation against him a “witch hunt” and “prosecutorial misconduct.”

Reports suggest that Trump could face as many as 30 charges, but it’s unclear exactly how many he will be indicted on and what those charges will be.

This is a developing story.
