It’s no secret that there’s no love lost between former POTUS Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

The pair held their breath and smiled side-by-side for campaign events in 2018 and 2019, but after Trump lost the 2020 election, their relationship soured quickly.

The vitriol between the pair has reached a new fever pitch amid DeSantis’s ill-fated battle with entertainment giant, Disney, in his home state of Florida.

And Trump is warning that a disaster could be on the horizon if the Governor continues his revenge campaign against the corporation.

Ron DeSantis Takes on Disney, aka the House of Mouse

Florida has had its fair share of woes in recent years. Staggering deaths from COVID, political turmoil, and now – they could lose the House of Mouse?

That’s what Donald Trump is suggesting anyway in a new Truth Social post taking aim at Florida’s controversial governor.

Recently, DeSantis has been taking on mega-corporation Disney.

Appointed in 2020, former Disney CEO Bob Chapek was uninterested in picking a fight with DeSantis, and they co-existed relatively peacefully. But Chapek was outed and replaced by his predecessor, Bob Iger, the long-time Disney CEO who returned to the helm to guide Disney through the turbulent waters of the expected impending recession and recovery from the pandemic.

Iger wasn’t as eager to make peace with DeSantis, and spoke out against his controversial “Don’t Say Gay” bill which restricts what can be taught to elementary school children about relationships, and even restricts what can be said in the classroom.

Iger told CNN, “A lot of these issues are not necessarily political. It’s about right and wrong. So, I happen to feel and I tweeted an opinion about the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill in Florida. To me, it wasn’t about politics. It is about what is right and what is wrong, and that just seemed wrong. It seemed potentially harmful to kids.”

DeSantis was reportedly furious, and immediately started levying punitive measures against Disney for daring to speak out against him.

He ordered their special district designation dissolved, which means that their taxes and therefore oversight would go to the state. The problem was that Disney didn’t just collect their own taxes in their own district – known as the Reedy Creek Improvement District – they paid for the upkeep as well.

By turning the district over to the state, DeSantis saddled taxpayers with the upkeep of the district – a not insignificant debt.

DeSantis also appointed his own board members to oversee the company’s interests in Florida. But in a stunning last minute chess move, Disney voted to essentially kneecap the board, making them little more than figureheads.

Again, this infuriated DeSantis, who is now planning more retribution against the corporation – even threatening to build a prison right next to the park, and lower land values through a number of punitive measures.

While it’s not clear how legal DeSantis’s crusade is, it’s a gross misuse of power for political vendetta.

Disney, however, has not been cowed.

If there’s one company you don’t want to be on the outs with, it’s Disney.

The mega-corporation has endless money, resources, and a legal team that’s probably larger than most people’s social circles.

Right now, they’re gathering all of those resources to protect their sovereignty from the overreach of DeSantis, and it will likely look messy before it’s over.

Trump seems to have zeroed in on this, and is using the opportunity to slam the person he sees as his greatest rival for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination.

Trump took to Truth early Tuesday to write, “DeSanctus is being absolutely destroyed by Disney. His original P.R. plan fizzled, so now he’s going back with a new one in order to save face. Disney’s next move will be the announcement that no more money will be invested in Florida because of the Governor.”

The former President added, “In fact, they could even announce a slow withdrawal or sale of certain properties, or the whole thing. Watch! That would be a killer. In the meantime, this is all so unnecessary, a political STUNT! Ron should work on the squatter MESS!”

And even though Trump is known for wild political boasts and threats against rivals, he’s not exactly wrong.

DeSantis’s is facing a crisis of faith among his supporters.

A GOP megadonor, Thomas Peterffy, recently announced that he and his friends were pausing their donations to DeSantis in a major blow to the Governor’s agenda. As one of DeSantis’s biggest donors, he was one of the biggest resources for the Florida Governor eyeing the 2024 candidate field.

But Peterffy is backing off from supporting DeSantis due to the governor’s extremist social positions. After all, no donor wants to pour money into a candidate who can’t win the general election.

And DeSantis, once seen as a shoe-in for the general, is now considered a bad bet and a pariah because his social and culture war positions have become so extreme and dangerous for the GOP.

Peterffy recently told Financial Times, “I have put myself on hold because of his stance on abortion and book banning…myself, and a bunch of friends, are holding our powder dry.”

He added, “We are waiting to see who among the primary candidates is most likely to be able to win the general, and then put all of our firepower behind them.”

That doesn’t mean that Trump will be next in line for their cash, however. Donors have also pulled away from Trump, some calling him a “three time loser” with no chance to beat Biden in the general.

But it’s clear from Trump’s posts that he believes DeSantis is his only barrier to reclaiming the White House – and he’s laser-focused on bringing him down.
