After years of speculation, Tom Felton has finally addressed those rumors that he secretly dated Emma Watson. Yep, fans were convinced that the Harry Potter costars were in a relationship, and now, we know the truth.
“We are something, if that makes any sense. We’ve been very close for a long time. I adore her,” he gushed, when asked about Watson during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I think she’s fantastic. Hopefully she returns the compliment.”
He continued, “As far as the romantic side of it, I think that’s a Slytherin/Gryffindor thing rather than a Tom and Emma thing. I absolutely think the world of her. I think to be a part of what we’ve all been a part of, but for her to be the only girl, certainly the youngest one on set, to grow up with what she had to grow up with was incredibly exciting. You’re going to get me teary now, but no, I think she’s a fantastic influence on the world.”
He also revealed that he talks to the actress all the time.
“I spoke to Emma a couple days ago and immediately it was conversations about, ‘Oh wow, the kitchen sink’s been plugged’ or some trivial nonsense like my dog wouldn’t eat a particular kind of food,” he explained, adding that he’s in touch with almost all of the cast members. “We do stay in touch, quite frequently… It is nice that we’re in sort of four different corners of the earth and yet when we catch up, it feels like yesterday that this was all going on.”
Why Do Fans Think That They Secretly Dated?
It was no secret that Felton and Watson were super close on set of the magical movies. We mean, there’s so many videos of them being adorable together and goofing off in between takes. But when Watson revealed that she had a major crush on the Planet of the Apes star in an interview years later, fans started to wonder if something secretly went on between them.
“For the first two movies, I had a huge crush on Tom Felton. He was my first crush,” she revealed to Seventeen. “He totally knows. We talked about it – we still laugh about it. We are really good friends now, and that’s cool.”
And when the movies wrapped, the pair stayed as close as could be. In November 2018, they fueled relationship rumors even more when Watson posted a pic of her and Felton hanging out on the beach.

“Lovely Emma. We do see each other quite a lot actually. We just don’t always post pictures about it,” Felton told Us Weekly after their beach hangout. “Everyone loves the reunion of it. We’re reuniting all the time we just don’t always post it on Instagram. She was in my neighborhood and I hadn’t seen her for a few months. And I decided to take her for a skateboarding lesson, which she was very good at. She’s quite hard on herself. But she’s actually very good at it. So yeah, that was fun. I always enjoy spending time with her.”
They hung out again in 2019, and the brunette beauty even shared a pic that Felton had taken of her. But at the time, she insisted that he was only a friend.
“Friends capture you best,” she captioned it, tagging Felton as the photographer.

Then, in August of the same year, they jetted off to South Africa together! Luckily for us, Felton posted a pic from their trip, which showed him teaching Watson how to play guitar.

But in November 2019, the 31-year-old let everyone know once again that she and Felton were not an item. She told British Vogue that she was completely single. She said, “It took me a long time, but I’m very happy [being single]. I call it being self-partnered.”
A few days later, Felton told Daily Mail that he too was “self-partnered,” but added that Watson was “an incredibly smart and lovely young lady.”
But fans still believed that they had secretly dated back in the day. Especially after Rupert Grint claimed that he definitely picked up on their chemistry!
“There was always something,” he told ET. “There was a little bit of a spark. But we were kids. It was like any kind of playground romance. I didn’t have any sparks. I was spark-free.”
Now, Emma Watson Is In A Relationship With Leo Alexander Robinton
Well, whether something went on between them or not, it’s clear that they’re just friends now, since Watson is actually in a relationship with Leo Alexander Robinton. According to Daily Mail Watson started dating the business owner in April 2020. The outlet even claimed that Watson has introduced him to her lawyer parents, and that they’re now living together.
“Emma and Leo did everything in their power to keep their relationship private,” a source revealed. “Emma introduced Leo to her parents; she was really serious about him. They went for a meal together back in December at The Ivy restaurant in St John’s Wood not long after Emma and Leo first met.”
And according to Life & Style, her family and friends definitely approve of the relationship.
“He’s handsome and smart and all their mutual friends approve of the romance. He’s definitely a keeper,” an insider told them. “She has tried to keep her dating life as private as possible. Leo seems to be doing everything in his power to help her achieve that goal.”
Who Else Has Emma Watson Been Linked To?
Before that, she briefly dated Glee star Chord Overstreet for a few months in 2018. Before that, she was in a two-year relationship with a tech entrepreneur named William ‘Mack’ Knight, but they kept their relationship pretty much out of the spotlight. And when asked why she wanted to keep her love life private, Watson explained to Vanity Fair, “I can’t talk about my boyfriend in an interview. I’ve noticed, in Hollywood, who you’re dating gets tied up into your film promotion and becomes part of the performance and the circus. I would hate anyone that I were with to feel like they were in any way part of a show or an act.”
She was also linked to actor Roberto Aguire in 2015. In January 2014, she was spotted kissing fellow Oxford student Matthew Janney. They dated for 10 months, and when they split, the star’s rep told E! News that their “unrelenting work schedule” were to blame and that they ended things “amicably.”
She dated another Oxford student named Will Adamowicz in 2012. There were also rumors that she and her Perks Of Being a Wallflower costar Johnny Simmons were in a relationship after they filmed the flick in 2011. She also reportedly dated George Craig, Rafael Cebrián, Jay Barrymore, Francis Boulle, Angus Willoughby and Tom Ducker over the years.
