The strained relationship between former Teen Mom 2 stars Jenelle and Barbara Evans has taken a new turn in the wake of the recent events surrounding Jace’s disappearance and subsequent safe return.
Barbara, Jenelle’s mother, revealed to TMZ on August 17 that her grandson Jace, aged 14, had been taken off his ADHD medication by Jenelle after she gained custody of him earlier in the year. This development occurred after Jenelle was granted custody of Jace, who had been under Barbara’s care since he was an infant, as reported by Us Weekly in March. Barbara speculated that Jace’s absence might be connected to his discontinuation of medication.
Responding to her mother’s claims, Jenelle refuted the allegations and emphasized that Barbara lacks insight into her parenting methods with Jace.
“Barbara has not been in contact with Jace since Monday. I have cut off contact with her as of 3 weeks ago,” Jenelle conveyed to TMZ on August 17. “Barbara doesn’t have any idea what is going on inside my home. Jace had a therapist appointment today on Zoom at 10:30 a.m.… she hasn’t even attempted to speak to Jace directly.”
The tumultuous relationship between Jenelle and Barbara, which played out on MTV for years, came into the spotlight once again on August 15 when Jace, the son Jenelle shares with her ex-boyfriend Andrew Lewis, was reported missing.
According to an incident report obtained by The Sun on August 16, Jace left school following a disagreement with a staff member and disappeared into the woods. Later, Jace was found safe and reunited with his family, thanks to the efforts of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Department.
In response to the situation, Jenelle clarified through her manager that the incident was rooted in a typical teenage reaction to discipline. She revealed that Jace’s decision to leave came after his phone was taken away due to trouble at school. Jenelle reassured that this was not related to her relationship with her husband David Eason, stating, “This is a teenage boy being a teenager, mad that we decided to take his phone away.”
Barbara’s version of events contrasted with Jenelle’s, noting that she last spoke to Jace on Monday and had attempted to reach out to Jenelle, only to be told by her daughter to leave her alone.
Jenelle, a mother of three, shares custody of her other children, son Kaiser and daughter Ensley, with her ex-partners Nathan Griffith and David Eason, respectively.
