Remember Rebecca Black? Here’s What ‘Friday’ Singer Is Doing Now, A Decade After Going Viral
This may come as a shock, you guys, but it’s officially been 10 years since the iconic song “Friday” came

This may come as a shock, you guys, but it’s officially been 10 years since the iconic song “Friday” came out. Yep, Rebecca Black‘s viral tune first hit the web on February 10, 2011, and we cannot believe how fast time has flown by!
For those who forgot, after its premiere, the catchy track (and its music video) quickly took over the internet and became one of the most talked-about songs in history. And now, in honor of the anniversary, the singer has released a brand new version of the song! She dropped a remix of “Friday,” which features Dorian Electra, Big Freedia and 3OH!3, on Wednesday, and we cannot stop listening to it.

But wait, what has Black been up to over the last 10 years? She has changed so much since the song propelled her into the spotlight more than a decade ago. Here’s everything she accomplished since then and what she’s doing now…
She Went Through Some Mental Health Issues

Despite “Friday’s” major success — it quickly rose to the top of the charts, Black appeared on many talk shows, she guest starred in Katy Perry‘s “Last Friday Night” music video and the song was even featured in Glee — the brunette beauty admitted that she faced some mental health issues after it came out. It turns out. Black was bullied after its release, and it had a major impact on her.
“I just wish I could go back and talk to my 13-year-old self who was terribly ashamed of herself and afraid of the world. To my 15-year-old self who felt like she had nobody to talk to about the depression she faced,” she wrote on Instagram last year. “To my 17-year-old self who would get to school only to get food thrown at her and her friends. To my 19-year-old self who had almost every producer/songwriter tell me they’d never work with me. Hell, to myself a few days ago who felt disgusting when she looked in the mirror! I’m trying to remind myself more and more that every day is a new opportunity to shift your reality and lift your spirit. You are not defined by any one choice or thing. Time heals and nothing is finite. It’s a process that’s never too late to begin, and so, here we go! This might be a weird thing to post but the honesty feels good if nothing else.”

She Graduated From High School
After “Friday” came out, Black decided to drop out of school and finish her studies at home. She was homeschooled until she graduated high school, and then, she moved from Irving, CA, to Los Angeles, CA, so that she could pursue her career in singing.
She Released Some More Music
In July 2011, the YouTube star dropped her first song since “Friday,” called “My Moment.” After that, she released a few more singles — including a followup song called “Saturday.” Her debut Ep, RE/BL, came out in 2017, and she explained at the time that she wanted people to really respect her as an artist.
“Right now, I just want to get to a spot where people can refer to me as a musician, as a songwriter,” she told Time Magazine.
After that, she took a small break from making music, but returned in January 2021 with a track called “Girlfriend.”

She Started Her Own YouTube Channel

Besides making music, the influencer has also worked hard on growing her social media. She has gained more than one million followers on Instagram, and she even started her very own YouTube channel, where she currently has 1.48 million subscribers. On the channel, Black posts videos of herself covering various songs, talking about her daily life, giving makeup tips and so much more.
She Released A Docuseries
In January 2016, Black released her very own docuseries called “Life After ‘Friday,’” where she got real about the struggles she faced after dropping the hit song. It touched on the pressures she felt from gaining so much attention so quickly, and how the backlash she received from the public affected her.
That’s not all. In June 2017, she also stepped into the world of reality TV when she competed in Fox’s television musical competition series The Four: Battle for Stardom. But unfortunately, she was eliminated after the first round.
She Came Out As Queer

In April 2020, Black announced that she was queer.
“It’s something over the past few years, I’ve been having a lot of conversations with myself and my friends and my family. To me, the word queer feels really nice,” she said during an interview. “I’ve dated a lot of different types of people and I don’t really know what the future holds.”
She Dyed Her Hair Orange
The internet sensation is rocking a totally different look now! She dyed her hair bright orange in February 2021, and she looks pretty fierce if you ask us.
“Ate a few too many clementines, I guess,” she wrote on Instagram, while revealing the new hairstyle.

She also experimented with blue hair earlier this year, and that looked amazing too.

She’s definitely come a long way since “Friday” came out, and we can’t wait to see what she does next!
