Celebrities all across the internet are reacting to the war between Israel and Palestine‘s extremist regime of Hamas. And Gigi Hadid is no exception. The half-Palestinian supermodel joined fellow celebrities in making comments on the escalating violence near Gaza. But Hadid’s response seemed to stand out from the rest. Instead of taking sides, Hadid made what many are calling a “compassionate” and “careful” statement. Here’s what Hadid had to say, and why people are so touched by her words.

Supermodel Gigi Hadid took to social media this week to share her thoughts on the war. She opened her statement by saying that her thoughts are with those affected by this “unjustifiable tragedy.” Hadid went on to point out that many of the victims of the violence are children. She explained, “I have deep empathy and heartbreak for the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation,” calling that empathy a “responsibility I hold daily.”
Yet the model went on to add that she also feels a responsibility to her Jewish friends. To them, she explains, “to make it clear, as I have before: While I have hopes and dreams for Palestinians, none of them include the harm of a Jewish person.” Hadid then condemned Hamas’ violent tactics. She said, “The terrorizing of innocent people is not in alignment with & does not do any good for the ‘Free Palestine’ movement.” She called the idea that it does help fuel for a “decades-long cycle of back&forth retaliation” and “perpetuates the false idea” that to support Palestine means being antisemitic.
Hadid went on to conclude, “If you are hurting as I share my condolences today with my loves ones, both Palestinian and Jewish, I’m sending you my love and strength – whoever and wherever you are.” She added, “There are a lot of complex, personal and valid feelings, but every human deserves basic rights, treatment and security; no matter their nationality, religion, ethnicity or where they were born. I know my words will never be enough or heal the deep wounds of so many, but I pray for the safety of innocent lives, always.”
Fans took to social media to praise her statement which many called “heartfelt,” “compassionate” and “careful.”
Celebrities Taking Sides In Violent Conflict

And Gigi Hadid isn’t the only celebrity to share her thoughts on the violence. Celebrities from all walks of life are weighing in. It has become a divisive subject, both gaining and losing followers for people depending on how their audience feels about their statements. Right now, making public comments about the war is like walking through a social media minefield. No matter what they say, people will be lined up to argue in the comments.
Here’s a non-comprehensive list of celebrities who have braved the internet’s wrath so far to make a statement:
- Josh Gad: “I have no words. I am praying for my many family members in Israel. What a cowardly act. What we are witnessing in real time right now is unprecedented since the Yom Kippur war. My heart breaks for the families of those who have lost loved ones, and for the hostages who have been taken. What a horrific day.”
- Mark Hamil: “America stands with Israel ✊.”
- Sarah Silverman: “My sister and nieces and nephews are there. They’ve been protesting BIBI for months. Fight for a two state solution. Israelis are Jews and Arabs and all colors. There is so much complexity to this. But make NO MISTAKE Hamas is a terror organization whose mission statement is to kill all Jews. This fucking world breaks my heart.”
- Kylie Jenner: “SHARE if you stand with the people of Israel as they face one of the most frightening situations in many years.”
- Gal Gadot: “I stand with Israel you should too.” She then posted, “The world cannot sit on the fence when these horrific acts of terror are happening!”
- Bono (U2): “In the light of what’s happened in Israel and Gaza, a song about non-violence seems somewhat ridiculous, even laughable, but our prayers have always been for peace and for non-violence… But our hearts and our anger, you know where that’s pointed. So sing with us… and those beautiful kids at that music festival.”
And many more have weighed in. Hollywood is often considered traditionally pro-Israel, which is why it’s not surprising to see so many celebrities speak in favor of the ally nation. But others like Gigi Hadid have reminded people that the conflict is “complicated.” And there are innocents on both sides.
