Celebrities all across the internet are reacting to the war between Israel and Palestine‘s extremist regime of Hamas. And Gigi Hadid is no exception. The half-Palestinian supermodel joined fellow celebrities in making comments on the escalating violence near Gaza. But Hadid’s response seemed to stand out from the rest. Supermodel Gigi Hadid took to social media this week to share her thoughts on the war. She opened her statement by saying that her thoughts are with those affected by this “unjustifiable tragedy.” Hadid went on to point out that many of the victims of the violence are children. She explained, “I have deep empathy and heartbreak for the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation,” calling that empathy a “responsibility I hold daily.”
Yet the model went on to add that she also feels a responsibility to her Jewish friends. To them, she explains, “to make it clear, as I have before: While I have hopes and dreams for Palestinians, none of them include the harm of a Jewish person.” Hadid then condemned Hamas’ violent tactics. She said, “The terrorizing of innocent people is not in alignment with & does not do any good for the ‘Free Palestine’ movement.” She called the idea that it does help fuel for a “decades-long cycle of back&forth retaliation” and “perpetuates the false idea” that to support Palestine means being antisemitic.
Hadid went on to conclude, “If you are hurting as I share my condolences today with my loves ones, both Palestinian and Jewish, I’m sending you my love and strength – whoever and wherever you are.” She added, “There are a lot of complex, personal and valid feelings, but every human deserves basic rights, treatment and security; no matter their nationality, religion, ethnicity or where they were born. I know my words will never be enough or heal the deep wounds of so many, but I pray for the safety of innocent lives, always.”
Fans took to social media to praise her statement which many called “heartfelt,” “compassionate” and “careful.”
