Groot Hospitality's David Grutman Designed World's First Space Lounge with Space Perspective

David Grutman is best known for his work with Groot Hospitality on the ground. With Miami's nightlife guided by Grutman like a caption behind the wheel, his name has become synonymous with success and innovation in the industry. Now, Grutman's dreams and creativity are taking flight and joining the very stars in the sky, as he has joined the team as Experience Curator and designed the world's first Space Lounge in Spaceship Neptune. Working with Space Perspective to bring Groot Hospitality to the heavens, the new Space Lounge allows travelers to reach the edge of space in ultimate comfort and luxury – plus, there's a bar with a view like no other.

Groot Hospitality Joins the Stars in the Sky

If you've ever sat in a Grutman venue and thought, "this feels like the future," it turns out you were a little prophetic yourself. Because now, Grutman has taken his talent to soaring new heights alongside Space Perspective as they bring an exciting new way for the adventurous to see the world. Space Perspective is a company that offers edge-of-space flights, and Experience Curator Grutman has designed the world's first Space Lounge that will entertain the curious as they see the world as perhaps it was meant to be seen. Space Perspective recently unveiled their concept for Spaceship Neptune, the world's first luxury Space Lounge that will take 8 guests to new heights.

Grutman was brought into the project to design this Space Lounge, with panoramic views and an elegant interior that had to find a way to thrill without distracting from the views outside. Of course, Grutman is the master of balancing pizazz and reserve – and it shows in the new Lounge design. Grutman says of the experience in a statement, "I am beyond excited about advising Space Perspective on the Space Lounge experience – we really want to make this transformative. The world class team at Space Perspective is on a mission to change people’s perception of what adventure travel can be. We have so many ideas on how we can customize the journey – from birthday celebrations, and corporate getaways, to creating seminal moments that will capture the imaginations of all.”

The Lounge itself will over 360-degree views of space and the world below. Grutman knows the value of a detail-oriented experience and it's all been carefully curated, right down to the Neptune drink glasses, a specially-designed dessert and a bar that feels like the best of Miami nightlife – just in space.

The team shared in a statement other features of the Lounge:

  • "Arced, deep, reclining seats, which maximize the ability for Space Explorers to enjoy both the vista and each other, can be reconfigured to accommodate a more intimate dinner for two or special event
  • Lightweight, dark and tactile sustainable materials throughout its interior to reduce glare and reflection
  • Food and beverage service capabilities, including a bar top handcrafted using pellets formed by re-purposing the pioneering recyclable material from Space Perspective’s SpaceBalloons
  • The center of the capsule is kept free to ensure group photography (WiFi is also available in-flight) can easily be accommodated. Stretching out and walking around is also straightforward
  • Customizable mood lighting including low red LED lights ensure Space Explorers will absorb the dramatic sights of witnessing dawn, planet Earth, and stars above in space – while easily navigating their way around the Space Lounge
  • A telescope and interactive screens – including an overhead ‘donut’ scrolling display to share key information as the journey unfolds
  • Tasteful decorations including floor lamps, plants and herbs such as lavender, basil and rosemary which are used in food and drink prep. The plants remind us of the interconnected nature of our planet
  • A luxurious restroom featuring huge windows too so Space Explorers never miss the incredible views."

Grutman will be in charge of curating guest experience from arrival at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, to in-flight and post-landing. And, knowing Grutman's attention to detail and expertise – it will be an experience of a lifetime, even if the views weren't truly second-to-none.

Space Perspective – The World’s First Luxury Space Travel

Space Perspective may be cornering the market on a luxury lift to space, but their mission is greater than that.

At Space Perspective, they believe in environmental responsibility and broadening horizons through education and understanding. The website shares their mission; "Space Perspective is driven by a desire to share the transformative power of space travel with as many people as possible. We know from experience that looking down on Planet Earth from space will radically shift one’s perception of our world and our place within it.

Our founders were on the design team and were crew members in Biosphere 2. A hermetically-sealed, self-sustaining environment, Biosphere 2 was developed as a laboratory for learning about our planet, and a viable prototype for a living environment that could be installed on other planets. They spent two years sealed inside Biosphere 2, living in a state of intense environmental symbiosis with their natural surroundings. It was an experience that left them with the sort of similarly expanded perspective that astronauts like our own Jeff Hoffman report after returning from space—a visceral understanding of what it means to be part of the vast, complex, beautiful planet we call home and share with each other."

By giving people the chance to experience the world from a distance – to gain perspective – they hope to ignite a desire for environmental care and encourage people to see our existence in a new way. If humans better understood our part in this great blue bubble, we would be more responsible to one another and the planet around us. That's the goal of Space Perspective and others in the industry looking to give people a different view on life as we know it.

The Space Perspective team sums up the Spaceship Neptune experience in a statement; "Space Perspective is revolutionizing space tourism – and is a world away from rocket-fueled space endeavors. The elegant ascent in the climate-controlled, pressurized capsule, propelled by a state-of-the-art SpaceBalloon, enables passengers to safely glide for two hours at the edge of space absorbing the phenomenal beauty of Earth and vastness of space. Lift-off takes place at dawn so guests can soak up the sun rising as they climb 100,000 ft (20 mi/30 km). The gradual, two-hour descent to Earth gently concludes with a splash down in the ocean, where a ship retrieves the passengers, the capsule, and the SpaceBalloon. Every aspect of the interior has been designed to enhance the transformative views while elegantly ascending at a cruise speed of 12mph."

Space Perspective is fully booked for 2024, its first year of operation. However, they are currently taking reservations for 2025 and beyond. Tickets are priced at $125,000 per person, and bookings are made with a fully refundable deposit beginning at $1,000, including an option to pay with crypto. Entire capsules are also available for reservations (up to eight guests and a pilot).
