It’s safe to say that Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are total friendship goals. The two stars have been besties for years now, and Gomez just reminded us all how close they are by sharing a few never-before-seen pics with the blonde beauty to Instagram.

“Kinda missin’ this one,” she captioned a series of selfies, which showed her and Swift posing together alongside her cat.

The “Cardigan” songstress even left a super sweet comment on the post! She wrote, “I love you like a love song bay beh,” which is a reference to one of Gomez’s songs.

OK, how cute are they?! In case you forgot, these two have actually been friends for more than a decade now, and boy, have they been through a lot together. But how did they even meet, you ask? When did they grow close? And what have they said about each other over the years? Not to worry, you guys, because we went ahead and made you a complete guide to their amazing friendship. Here’s everything you need to know…

Their Friendship Started Because Of The Jonas Brothers

Get this, you guys — their friendship actually dates all the way back to 2008! That’s right, they’ve been close for 13 years now, so they’ve practically grown up together. And it turns out, they met for the first time while they both were dating a Jonas Brother — Gomez was linked to Nick Jonas, while Swift was in a relationship with Joe Jonas.

“We actually dated the Jonas Brothers together! It was hysterical,” Gomez later revealed during an interview. “It was amazing, because she was the girl with the big curly hair and all the bracelets and the cowboy boots. And I was definitely up-and-coming, and we just clicked. It was the best thing we got out of those relationships.”

Selena Gomez Said She Turns To Taylor Swift For Loved Advice

In 2009, when asked who she turned to for relationship advice, Gomez said that Swift was her go to!

Every single problem I ever have is healable by Taylor Swift,” she revealed. “If I ever I have an issue, Taylor has gone through it, because she’s older than me, and she gives the most thought-out answers. And what I love about Taylor is that she does believe in the whole love story and Prince Charming and soul mates. Because of her, I haven’t lost faith. We literally talk every day.”

They’ve Performed Together Quite A Few Times Over The Years

Over the years, the ladies have walked numerous red carpets together, posted tons adorable pics with each other and got spotted hanging out so many times! And they even hit the stage to perform together! Yep, in November 2011, Gomez surprised fans at Swift’s Speak Now Tour when she joined the musician on stage to perform her hit song “Who Says” during one of her concerts. Plus, Swift also brought her out to perform “Good For You” during her 1989 Tour in 2015! They also performed together in 2018, when Gomez made a surprise appearance at her Reputation Stadium Tour. And before singing, the former Disney star told the audience how much Swift meant to her.

“The reason why she has been one of my best friends is because this person has never judged a single decision I’ve made. She’s always met me where I’ve been. She’s encouraged me when I’ve had nothing to be encouraged about, and I don’t know if I would be as strong as I am if I didn’t have you and your family because you’ve changed my life. And – she’s going to kill me after – but honestly, thank you for the bottom of my heart for supporting someone who I know is the most beautiful, strong, independent woman I’ve ever met. So thank you as a best friend,” she said while on stage.

After the show, Swift gushed on Instagram, “To the person I could call at any time of day, who has been there no matter what… You absolutely KILLED IT tonight and everyone was so excited to see you. I love you, and 60,000 people at the Rose Bowl loved you too.”

Taylor Swift Said Selena Gomez Is Her Longest Friend

In 2014, Swift opened up about why her friendship with Gomez was so special. She explained, “It’s been the longest one I think either of us had really. When your life changes, and you become thrust into this really strange whirlwind where what your life is is different from what other people think your life is. And your life is commented on and your life is written about and fictionalized and all that. Both of us have kind of stuck it out and hung in there through all the different changes we’ve gone through. Longevity is something you really can find very precious and rare in friendships.”

She also said in another interview, “There has always been this quality of sisterhood, and I don’t say that in a basic way. I knew from when I met her, I would always have her back. In my life, I have the ability to forgive people who have hurt me. But I don’t know if I can forgive someone who hurts her.”

They got so close that Swift even asked Gomez to star in her music video! Yep, she made an appearance in the visual for Swift’s song “Bad Blood,” and we were all living for it.

Selena Gomez Stuck Up For Taylor Swift Online

In July 2016, when Swift got into a major feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West online, Gomez was quick to stick up for her bestie. For those who forgot, the rapper released a song called “Famous” which contained a nasty line about Swift in it, and she was not pleased. Then, Kardashian stepped in and released a snippet of a recorded phone call between West and Swift, in which it appeared that Swift heard the line before the song came out, and that she was totally OK with it. However, the full recording later leaked, and it proved that Kardashian had edited it to make it seem that way.

“Truth is, last thing we need right now is hate, in any form,” she tweeted after Kardashian released the snippet. She added in another post, “There are more important things to talk about… Why can’t people use their voice for something that f**king matters? This industry is so disappointing yet the most influential SMH.”

She also supported Swift after Scooter Braun bought the rights to all of her old music. At the time, Swift accused him and his clients of bullying her.

“My heart is so heavy right now. It makes me sick and extremely angry. (I don’t mind if there may be retaliation) this is my opinion. It’s greed, manipulation, and power. There is no heart or thought of anyone else. No respect for the words my friend has written since she was a 14-year-old in her bedroom. You’ve robbed and crushed one of our best song writers of our time an opportunity to celebrate all of her music with her fans and the world,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories at the time. “I have known Taylor for 13 years. She is the most dedicated, fearless, fiesty, strongest woman I’ve ever known. People can say b***h but what I’m saying to you is that’s called a woman with true identity and strength who takes no s**t. I listened to Fearless before it came out and I just remember us jumping on a bed and she was just sparkling. So proud of her diary being read by the whole world. Nervous of people not liking it… but that became one of the biggest records — an album that saved so many young woman who felt alone. Have a broken heart. Who were healing. Those who felt invisible. Gave a voice to those who didn’t know that they had one all along. Believing in dreams again. I continued to see how she has constantly challenged her self to create a beautiful life that belong to just her. So I can tell you first hand the MOST important thing to Taylor is her family, love, her fans, and her MUSIC. I really hope there is a change of heart over this unfortunate situation.”

She added, “Seeing my best friend (or any of my friends) be constantly pulled down is the worst feeling. Taylor fights. She will never stop fighting. People grow from choices. Some will stay exactly the same. I just want a change of heart. I love you.”

Taylor Swift Was There For Selena Gomez At Her Worst

According to reports, after Gomez checked herself into rehab in 2018 to focus on her mental health, Swift was there for her.

“Selena really leans on Taylor and considers her one of her best friends. Selena and Taylor have been in touch since Selena left her treatment and are very close,” a source said. “Taylor has reached out several times and has shown her support and love.”

Gomez once said in an interview, “There’s so much of my friendship with Taylor that people don’t know about because we don’t necessarily feel the need to post about everything we do. She has showed up for me in ways that I would have never expected. Flown in because I was hurt and was going through something. Stuff that was going on with my family. It’s been proven year after year and in every moment of my life that she is one of my best friends in the world. We don’t agree on everything, but we respect each other with everything.”

The Two Stars Always Support Each Other’s Work

When Swift released her album Lover, Gomez took to Instagram to show her support. She posted a screenshot of herself listening to it, writing, “You’re just… Unreal dude.” And when Gomez released her song “Lose You to Love Me” in October 2019, Swift supported it online too!

“This song is a perfect expression of healing and my absolute favorite song she’s put out yet. A triumph,” she wrote.

She also couldn’t stop gushing over Gomez’s new music in an interview with Beats 1.

“She came over, she played me the video. I’m so proud of her,” she said. “She’s been through so much. I’ve watched so much happen in her life and had a front row seat to so much, and I’m so proud of her. She is such a revelation because now she’s making her best stuff.”

The pop star continued, “I am 100 percent convinced this is the best thing she’s done so far. Just from my perspective as her friend, I’ve just never been more proud. The things that she’s overcome, the situations that she’s risen above. It’s been a long time that we’ve been friends, and she’s the best. I’m really excited because when somebody has had great life experience, has had really tough things they’ve had to go through, and they can process that and make art that’s going to help other people, that’s what kind of song this is.”

The Wizards of Waverly Place alum later revealed that Swift got emotional while hearing her song “Lose You To Love Me” for the first time.

“I was with her when I played her some of it. I’ll never forget when I did play the video for ‘Lose You to Love Me’ and ‘Look at Her Now’ at her house with her parents, and it was one of the coolest experiences because I’ve been friends with her for over a decade and love her family as well so I was like, ‘Do you just maybe see the video?’ and she’s like, ‘Amazing, of course.’ It was so hysterical. She just started turning off every single light off in the kitchen. And I was like, ‘This is not that intense, Taylor,'” she recalled. “And then she played it and her and her mom just started crying. Like, just tears and tears and all of a sudden, it stopped, and it’s going to make me cry thinking about it because it wasn’t about how great the song was—which is a lot, coming from her—it was just that they had been on that journey with me intimately, and they were crying because of how proud they were for me stepping into a whole new era of my life and it not involving the horrible things—the abuse, the emotional chaos. It felt like I had a huge sigh of relief and to see her and her mom feel that way, it was very sweet. It’s like an older sister and an aunt proud of their [friend]. It felt great to have people I love see it as that.”

When her album Rare came out, Swift wrote on Instagram, “Congratulations to @selenagomez and everyone who had a hand in creating this… Make sure to buy/stream/support this work of art and the beautiful soul who created it.”

Plus, when Swift released Folklore, Gomez supported it online, writing, “She’s done it again.” Gomez has even been spotted wearing some of Swift’s merch — how cute is that?!

They Want To Make Music Together

When asked if they’ve ever talked about recording together, Gomez admitted, “Yeah! I mean super casual. We’ve never been like no or never talked about it. It’ll happen when it happens, if it does there’s no pressure. She’s been my friend for 13 years. It would be awesome.”

This needs to happen, like, ASAP. She also said in another interview that Swift was her dream person to collaborate with!

“I’ll say there’s a few artists for sure, but I’ve always dreamt of doing a song with Taylor. I mean, we both wanted to do that. It’s just — everything remains in our friendship, you know?” she said. “And so, it’s so — It just feels like we’re family. I’ve known her for 13 or 14 years now. So she’s been my best friend. But we’ve talked about it for sure.”

We cannot wait to see what’s next for the besties.
