Hailey Beiber And Other Stars Who Find [Mentally] Safe Spaces Through Healthy Practices

No matter your social or economic status, being human comes first. And, anxiety, being one human struggle, prevails in most of us, celebrities included. Anxiety disorder, social anxiety, and panic attacks can be the more severe experiences. However, it's common for the majority of people to go through phases of feeling excessive stress or nerves that take over our way of thinking.

Celebrities including Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Anne Hathaway and Stephen Colbert have used their platform to destigmatize anxiety conditions and find solutions to heal the mental suffering.

Hailey Bieber Talks Therapy

This year, During Mental Health Awareness month Bieber got candid on her YouTube channel with a video, opening up about her experience with therapy.

"There are several things I like to do to check in with myself. One of those things being talk to somebody you trust," the model explained. After mentioning that she's been seeing a therapist for the past four years she admitted, "It's something that I felt not sure of in the beginning. But the more I've grown my relationship with my therapist, it has been such a game changer for me and it's a space where I feel really safe to be able to talk about what's going on in my mind, say things out loud and feel safe and not feel judged."

Another important part of her healing process has been establishing a healthy relationship with social media. The former Drop the Mic host explained, "I’m somebody who struggles with people-pleasing and really wanting everybody to like me and caring a lot about what people have to say and what they think. The negativity, the comments [can take their toll]. … I’m in a space where I’m trying to have the healthiest relationship with social media that I can.”

In fact, right before 2020 began, Bieber elaborated on her love for human connection but the obstacle that social media has created in the process of blending thoughts and words with others.

“I would say my most favorite part of existing is human connection, I absolutely love connecting with other people, I love finding common interests between me and others, hearing people’s story, I love laughing with others, and I love crying with others. I feel so very very deeply," Bieber wrote on Instagram.

She continued to elaborate, “Instagram, Twitter etc is SUCH a breeding ground for cruelty towards each other, and because people don’t take the time to connect with each other on an honest level before they resort to hatred, it starts to damage what could be really beautiful human interaction and connection. I could sit here all day and say the hate doesn’t bug me, that the words that are said don’t affect me. But NEWS FLASH: it hurts to be torn apart on the internet!!!”

Her video concluded with a positive message, "Just know, I understand and we're all in it together. You're not alone in what you go through, ever."

Self-Care Hacks From Stars Across The Sky

Being in the spotlight might look like a grand ole time for us regular people who can walk into a store or a restaurant at any time of day, dressed however we please. But, to those actually in it, whether it be by choice or born into, it can be pressuring. Therefore, it's no shock that celebrities across the board deal with anxieties of their own.

Anne Hathaway, someone we all know and love (from afar of course), has admitted to being brought down by stress and anxiety. However, her way of fighting it literally burns her negative thoughts into thin air. She explained, "Set a timer on your phone [for 12 minutes], have a candle nearby, and write it all down. You spew it all out. You do not read it. The timer goes off, you tear it out of the book and you light it on fire… literally on fire. All this energy, this angst, this rage – everything is smoke."

Kendall Jenner, a close friend of Bieber, also deals with her own forms of anxiety which she claims "is all mental" stating that "you have to try and find your ways around it." During an episode of her family's reality show, she opened up about methods she's tried including acupuncture, meditation, and sound baths. Jenner also talked about her new journey with Proactive which helped with the anxiety that her acne caused her.

Late night show host, Stephen Colbert, revealed to Rolling Stone in 2018 that be began suffering from crippling anxiety in 1993. “I had a bit of a nervous breakdown after I got married — kind of panic attacks,” he shared. “My wife would go off to work and she’d come home…and I’d be walking around the couch. And she’s like, ‘How was your day?’ And I’d say, ‘You’re looking at it.’ Just tight circles around the couch.” Colbert admitted to having tried Xanax and although it helped, he stopped after "like nine days."

Actually, his show, Late Night With Stephen Colbert is what he claims to have saved him. "Creating something is what helped me from just spinning apart like an unweighted flywheel. And I haven't stopped since."
