The entire internet is in a frenzy after Harry Styles allegedly changed the lyrics to his song “Golden” during the first night of his tour on Saturday, September 4. Yep, the singer kicked off his Love On Tour with a concert in Las Vegas, NV, over the weekend, and fans were pretty shook when it appeared that he sang about a guy while performing the hit track.

“I’m hoping, I’m sorry, he’s hoping, someday I could be open,” the new lyrics supposedly read. “Keep growing I’m hoping / Leave me broken / I’m hoping someday you’ll open / I know that you’re scared because I’m so open.”

As fans know, Styles’ sexuality has been a hot topic of conversation over the years, with many people convinced that he’s secretly in a relationship with his old One Direction bandmate Louis Tomlinson. So is this the proof everyone has been waiting for? Here’s what we know…

What Has Harry Styles Previously Said About His Sexuality?

Harry Styles

Over the year, Styles has been a pretty open ally of the LGTBQ+ community — he has held up rainbow flags during his concerts, worn shirts that support the community and he’s even spoken out about it a few times. But when it comes to his own sexuality, he said he doesn’t believe in labels.

“It’s weird for me — everyone should just be who they want to be,” he told Bizarre in 2017. “It’s tough to justify somebody having to answer to someone else about stuff like that. I’ve never felt the need to [label myself] really. I don’t feel like it’s something I’ve ever felt like I have to explain about myself.”

However, in 2018, the former 1D member debuted an unreleased song called “Medicine” during his tour, and it had some suspicious lyrics that had many fans convinced he may be bisexual.

“The boys and the girls are here / I mess around with him / And I’m OK with it,” he sang in it.

And that’s not all. Did we mention that during a concert, after he spotted a fan sign that read “I’m gay and I love you,” Styles responded with, “I mean, we’re all a little bit gay, aren’t we?”

Plus, when he was asked about his sexuality in another interview, the superstar explained, “I’m not always super-outspoken. But I think it’s very clear from choices that I make that I feel a certain way about lots of things.”

And when the outlet mentioned how he liked to hold up pride flags during his shows, he added, “I want everyone to feel welcome at shows and online. They want to be loved and equal, you know? I’m never unsupported, so it feels weird for me to overthink it for someone else.”

Why Do Fans Think He’s Secretly Dating Louis Tomlinson?

Louis Tomlinson

At the moment, Styles is currently in a relationship with Olivia Wilde (who was spotted supporting him at the show). But many people think that their relationship isn’t real and that the 27-year-old is secretly dating Tomlinson. Fans have been actually convinced for years that the two are in love and that they’re being forced to hide their romance from the world because of their management team.

It all started when some people started to notice a bunch of cute little interactions and interesting comments made between the two guys online, on stage, in videos and during interviews, and quickly, theories started to arise that they were more than friends. Now, there are entire Tumblr pages and Twitter accounts dedicated to the rumored relationship — which fans refer to as Larry Stylinson — and over the years, fans have compiled tons of pictures, videos, GIFs, quotes and so many more things that they believe are proof of Styles and Tomlinson’s love.

What Does The Lyric Change Mean?

So is this lyric change in “Golden” the confirmation Larry shippers have been waiting for? Well, it’s actually hard to make out exactly what he says in the song, since all we have to go off is muffled fan videos posted from the concert. So unfortunately, it’s all still speculation for now. But based on what he’s said in past interviews, the musician really just wants people to stop caring so much about his sexuality.

“It’s not like I’m sitting on an answer, and protecting it and holding it back. It’s not a case of — I’m not telling you because I don’t want to tell you. It’s not — oh, this is mine and it’s not yours,” the “Sign of the Times” crooner said. “It’s — who cares? Does that make sense? It’s just — who cares?”

Styles continued, “Am I sprinkling in nuggets of sexual ambiguity to try and be more interesting? No. In terms of how I wanna dress and what the album sleeve’s gonna be, I tend to make decisions in terms of collaborators I want to work with. I want things to look a certain way. Not because it makes me look gay, or it makes me look straight, or it makes me look bisexual, but because I think it looks cool.”
