It’s official, you guys — Harry Styles is heading back to the big screen! Yep, the One Direction member was just cast in a brand new movie called Don’t Worry Darling, and we have all the exciting details!
As fans know, the singer first made his acting debut back in 2017 when he starred in Christopher Nolan‘s film Dunkirk, alongside Fionn Whitehead, Tom Hardy and more. He was also considered for the role of Prince Eric in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, but he ultimately turned it down to focus on his music career instead.
But now, it looks like the “Sign of the Times” artist is ready to get back into acting — and we can’t wait! So when is his new movie going to come out? Who else is starring in it? And what will it be about? We’ve got you covered.
Who else is in the cast?
According to Deadline, the upcoming flick will also star Florence Pugh (who fans may recognize from Little Women, Midsommar, Black Widow and more) and Chris Pine (who is most known for his role in Star Trek, but also acted in Wonder Woman, Into the Woods and others). The Hollywood Reporter also reported that Fifty Shades of Grey‘s Dakota Johnson has joined the cast! Shia LaBeouf was supposed to appear in it as well, but Styles actually replaced him after the actor reportedly backed out due to scheduling conflicts. But want to know the best part? Olivia Wilde is directing the movie! Plus, Katie Silberman (who was behind movies like Isn’t It Romantic, the Netflix film Set It Up and more) wrote the screenplay. Wow, talk about a dream team.
What is Don't Worry Darling going to be about?
Deadline reports that the film “is set in an isolated, utopian community in the 1950s California desert.” According to Collider, Pugh will play “an unhappy housewife who slowly begins to question her own sanity when she starts to notice strange occurrences.”
As for Pine, he will star as “the leader of a mysterious worksite.” The outlet adds, “All the men are employed just outside of town, and Pine’s character is revered by all of his staffers and their wives, almost in a cult-like fashion.” Johnson’s character reportedly lives next door to Pugh, and “will begins to exhibit strange, paranoid behavior and tries to warn Pugh that everything in their community is not what it seems.”
Who is Styles going to play?
But what about the 1D heartthrob, you ask? Well, Collider reports that the 26-year-old will play “Pugh’s picture-perfect husband, who loves her dearly, but is hiding a dark secret from her.” Sounds intense!
When is the movie released?
Unfortunately, there’s no release date for it just yet, but production is reportedly set to begin in the fall!
And it turns out, this isn’t the only movie that 1D fans have to look forward to. After We Collided — the upcoming sequel to the Styles-inspired film After — is set to hit theaters on October 23, 2020. For those who forgot, the first flick came out in April 2019, and it starred Hero Fiennes-Tiffin and Josephine Langford. It was based off a widely popular One Direction fan fiction written by Anna Todd. The story started off on Wattpad, but after getting millions of views, it was published into a five-part book series, and later turned into a movie.
Now, we’re just weeks away from the sequel! And get this, you guys — not only will Fiennes-Tiffin and Langford reprise their roles as Hardin and Tessa for the new movie, but it was also announced back in August 2019 that Dylan Sprouse is joining the already-epic cast! Ugh, can it be October 23 already?!
What else has Styles been up to recently?
Besides landing this major movie role, it’s been rumored that the pop star has also been hard at work on his third studio album. Yep, you guys might want to brace yourselves for some new music from Styles because was recently spotted in Bath, England. Now, it’s still unclear what he was doing there, but some fans were quick to point out that his last LP, Fine Line, was recorded at a studio right near Bath. Coincidence? We hope not.
There was also speculation that he was gearing up to star in another new flick, this time with Brad Pitt. Latin America outlet Vértice Cine reported that the musician was cast in a film called Faster, Cheaper, Better. But according to Vanity Fair, Styles is not going to appear in the movie after all. Sources told them that the rumors were completely false. Sorry people, we guess two new movies and a new album from him was just too good to be true!
