Before you get ahead of yourself, no that’s not actually an award. Although, IF it was, Hugh Grant would be this year’s winner for his terribly awkward red-carpet interview with Ashley Graham.
Vanity Fair Isn’t Just A News Outlet
Last night, we learned that Vanity Fair isn’t just who throws the after-party for the Oscars. The term is also used as a literary reference which was Grant’s intention when referring to the Oscars event.
Graham asked Grant what his “favorite thing about coming to the Oscars” is.
The Love Actually actor responded with a chuckle, “Ugh, it’s fascinating. The whole of humanity’s here. It’s ‘Vanity Fair.”
Referring to the A-list after-party Graham replied, “Oh, it’s all about Vanity Fair. That’s where we let loose and have a little of fun.” And, that’s where she lost Grant.
The model continued to ask the award show vet questions about the evening to which he gave short and smug replies.
When Graham asked Grant who made his tuxedo he refused a straight answer by replying, “my suit.” And, when she asked him to elaborate on who made it he said, “I can’t remember, my tailor.”
Graham then went on to the topic of his latest cameo in Glass Onion- Knives Out. She asked, “It was such an amazing film, I really loved it. I love a thriller. How fun is it to shoot something like that?”
“Well, I’m barely in it. I mean, I’m in for about three seconds,” said Grant.
Hugh Grant Makes Headlines
Many people have come to the defense of Graham after Grant’s poor interview on the carpet. The model herself even spoke up.
TV host and producer for E! wrote on Twitter on Sunday, “Don’t worry @ashleygraham … now you see why Hugh Grant isn’t one of our favorites to interview live. Well done working around his nonsense.”
Kennedy also came to her defense when a Twitter user tried to call the model out saying that she should have “kept in mind [Grant’s] history of interviews and been more strategic.” Adding in, “weren’t there any number of other people to speak with?” The Entertainment journalist replied, “Not the case, it’s pre-produced for a broadcast like that, not her call.”
One fan of Graham wrote on Twitter, “Is Hugh Grant just an arrogant d–k all the time? He was so rude to Ashley Graham on the red carpet, complete with an eye roll. Maybe he should stay home if he’s too good for his industry of choice.”
Another wrote, “You should get an Oscar for how gracefully you handled that interview with Hugh Grant. He was either drunk or something but he didn’t even want to be there.”
Rolling Stone even went after the actor saying, “Why stop to do an interview on the red carpet if you’re going be a d—k on live TV? That’s the question we have for Hugh Grant.”
As for Graham herself?
When she was approached by TMZ at the airport today she responded with grace, “You know what? My mama told me to kill people with kindness, so there you go.” She even joked, “I had so much fun. My feet hurt.”
