Despite facing multiple criminal indictments and new charges in Georgia, a significant portion of Trump voters remain steadfast in their support for the former president. A recent CBS News/YouGov poll reveals that nearly three in four Trump voters consider supporting him during his legal battles as a reason to continue backing him.

Trump’s lead over his Republican rivals has expanded, with 62 percent of likely Republican primary voters supporting him, compared to Ron DeSantis’ mere 16 percent. Notably, DeSantis’ support has dropped by 7 points since June.

The poll also sheds light on how Trump’s supporters perceive his legal challenges. An overwhelming 77 percent of likely GOP primary voters believe that the recent indictment against Trump is politically motivated. This indictment, along with charges against 18 others, stems from their alleged involvement in attempting to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results.

Delving further, the poll queried Trump’s supporters about the events of January 6 and his efforts to overturn the election. Surprisingly, 41 percent of “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) supporters felt that then-Vice President Mike Pence made the wrong decision by counting states’ votes that day, suggesting a significant division within this group. A mere 21 percent believed Pence did the right thing, while 38 percent remained uncertain.

The poll’s findings also highlight the unwavering belief in Trump’s credibility among his supporters. Despite his history of falsehoods, a staggering 71 percent of Trump voters consider him a source of “true” information, even surpassing the trust they place in their own friends and family, who garnered 63 percent support.

In a political landscape marked by polarization and heated debates, these survey results underscore the deep-rooted loyalty that many Trump supporters continue to hold for their preferred leader, even in the face of legal challenges and controversies.
