There are a few people whose voices have transcended time and generations. Their talents are so extraordinary that they become legends in the music world. Among those: Whitney Houston.

A new internet debate has sparked as to whether a certain current pop diva can compare to one of the world's greats, and her name is Adele. Is Adele as good as Whitney Houston? How about Beyonce? Here's what the internet has to say about this unlikely diva-off.

Diva vs Divas: The Internet is Divided on Whether or not Adele is as Good as Whitney Houston, Beyonce

It all started with a harmless game. A card, casually asking players, "One Gotta go:

  1. Queen Bey (vocally)
  2. Whitney (vocally)
  3. Mariah (vocally)
  4. Adele (vocally)."

But it quickly took on a life of its own, with Twitter users weighing in on the topic. Users hotly debated who the least talented singer of the four was and who they'd pick to go.

A surprising number of people picked Mariah to toodle-oo forever, with a few pointing out that Beyonce (Queen Bey) and Whitney [Houston] are in leagues of their own. But then: enter the debate about Adele and her place on the list.

One user created a head-to-head poll, which picked Mariah as the best singer of the four (despite her unpopularity in the comments of the original).

But the theme that kept recurring: does Adele belong in the same list as the other legends? Many called into doubt her vocal chops when compared to the likes of Houston, and her broad appeal compared to Beyonce. Others still pointed out Mariah's impressive longevity and the fact that she has single-handedly seized control of Christmas retail music the world over.

So is Adele as good as Whitney Houston, or does one reign supreme? Unfortunately, we don't have an answer – the internet debate rages on. So far, the answer seems to be that Houston remains the best of the best, but Adele could give her a run for her money.

What Happened to Adele’s Residency?

Adele for her part is currently just weeks from starting a residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

The residency was originally scheduled to run earlier this year but was canceled in January just 24 hours before she was set to take the stage. Rumors and conspiracies swirled in the wake of the abrupt cancellation, and fans who had already spent money on plane tickets and hotels were distraught.

Adele later called the decision to cancel "horrible" although gave few details about why she canceled in the first place, and the residency is now set to run November 18 through March 25, 2023. Rumor has it's for real this time.

A Little Bit of an Ego

And charmingly, Adele recently gushed on social media about her most recent win – an Emmy.

The pop diva wrote, "Bloody hell I’m pleased as punch! Thank you @mrbenwinston for dropping this round to me this afternoon!! Trust me to officially have an EGO Thank you so much @televisionacad , I’m so so honored to receive this. Big up to everyone involved. @griffithobservatory thank you for letting me sing up on your mountain and big love to all the other nominees x."

However you feel about Adele's ranking with the other musical greats, one thing is undeniable: she's earned the right to that ego.
