Is Britney Spears Racist? The Bizarre Fallout from Her War with Ex Kevin Federline

Pop queen Britney Spears is engaging in a heated back-and-forth with the father of her children and ex-husband, Kevin Federline. Federline has had custody of their children since Spears was placed under a mental health conservatorship 13 years ago.

As part of the custody arrangement, Spears can see her sons (Sean, 16, and Jayden, 15) 2-3 days a week. But recently she took to social media to accuse them of "abandoning" her, and being "hateful" as she pled with them to love her again. A response to Federline online has some raising eyebrows and asking – "was that racist, Britney Spears?"

Federline Speaks Up to Defend Sons

Federline has now hit back in defense of their sons, making the family feud even more public. Spears' ex released three videos that appeared to show Spears screaming at their sons, her behavior nonsensical and aggressive.

In the first video, a woman (not completely identifiable but alleged to be Spears) is in the car with the two boys, at the time 11 and 12 according to Federline. In the first video, the woman is clearly agitated, but it's the second video that has red flags waving.

The Sun reports, "[The woman alleged to be Spears] shouted while looking at the backseat: 'Have you lost your f–king mind? Have you lost your f–king mind? I do care but I'm shocked as f**k with you and I don't know what to do and I'm scared of you because you're weird 'cause you're going through puberty.'

The woman continued: 'I don't know what to say but I do care more than you know. My little body can't handle all of that. It's like sometimes I just don't even know what to say with you. I was in shock and I do care.'

Fans then get some context for the argument.

The two kids appeared both stunned and annoyed by their mothers anger in the video shown.

A boy, believed to be Sean, responded: 'If you really care you wouldn't take my phone away.'

The woman quiped [sic] back: 'I was in shock when I looked down in the story and – Jayden, how are you so cool about that? your brother, baring his big feet – size 13 – in an ice cream shop in Alaska weather?'"

Federline says he just wants the lies to stop and for people to know the truth behind what Spears is alleging about the teens.

Unfortunately for Spears in the wake of the shocking videos, she dug herself a little deeper by saying that the boys are being raised in a house that "has more weed than Ludacris, 50 Cent, Jay Z and Puff Daddy combined."

Critics immediately blasted the comments, since all four men listed are Black. So far, Spears has not addressed that controversy, focusing her energy on the back-and-forth with Federline and their sons.

Is Britney Showing Everyone Why the Conservatorship Was Necessary?

With the chaos of her recent behavior, some fans have questioned whether or not she's ready to be in charge of her own life again.

It's clear that she's making impulsive decisions and burning bridges left and right – so does that mean that those who wanted the conservatorship extended have a point?

It's a fine line for Spears to walk: the center between enjoying her freedom and expressing her pain to those she saw as her captors; and not being so wild and free that she sparks concerns about her mental health.

Whether or not Spears' mental health is in the best shape right now is secondary to the overall landscape. Putting another conservatorship over Spears now would require a massive burden of proof that she was harming herself and others through her decisions. She's allowed to be reckless, spend her money until it's gone, and burn all the bridges she wants – that's the agency all free people have. Whether or not fans agree with it, her impulsivity alone is not reason to spark a new conservatorship.

Whether she carries it farther than that or not remains the question. If Spears can get this embroiled in a back-and-forth, and then bring herself back down to earth – that's a compelling argument for the fact that the conservatorship would be wildly inappropriate to place on her again.

For now, Britney remains Free.
