Everyone was pretty excited when news hit the web that a brand new Supernatural prequel series was in the works. Well, not everyone. Yep, it turns out, Jared Padalecki actually found out about the show when we all did, and he was not here for it. He admitted that he was totally “gutted” that he wasn’t asked to be a part of it, and we definitely feel his pain.

As fans know, he and Jensen Ackles were the main stars of the original show, which went on for 15 seasons and aired from 2005 to 2020. It was about two brothers named Sam and Dean Winchester who hunted supernatural forces in an attempt to avenge their mother’s tragic death. It was a huge part of a lot of our childhoods, so the fact that they’re making a new spinoff series about it is seriously such great news! But wait, why wasn’t Padalecki involved?! Are he and Ackles in a feud over it? What’s going on between them? Here’s what you need to know…

What Will The New Show Be About?

According to Deadline, the new show will be called The Winchesters, and it’ll focus on Dean and Sam’s parents — John and Mary. Ackles — along with his wife, Danneel Ackles — are producing it. He will also narrate the show — which is described as an “epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.”

“After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over. Because like we say in the show, ‘Nothing ever really ends, does it?’” Ackles told the outlet in a statement. “When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”

How Did Jared Padalecki React To The News?

After news hit the web about the upcoming show, Padalecki took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the matter, and he was not here for it.

“Dude. Happy for you. Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter. I’m excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever,” he wrote, while retweeting Ackles announcement.

And when a fan asked him if his tweet was a joke, he added, “No. It’s not. This is the first I’ve heard about it. I’m gutted.”

Despite his disappointment, the actor explained that he didn’t want fans to send any hate to his former costar.

“Hey world. Thank you for the love. Please PLEASE don’t send any hate or threats,” he begged. “I care deeply about everybody involved and would be in true misery if any of them were harmed or threatened.”

After that, some fans took to Twitter to slam Padalecki for how he handled the situation, while others came to his defense.

“My dude, you handled this badly. You absolutely should’ve been told but d**n dude you put your friends on blast in public. Not cool,” one person tweeted, with another adding, “Jared, I love you, but I really hope you learn to better react to situations that upset you. I understand where you’re coming from but this matter was definitely something that needed to be dealt with privately.”

Another fan wrote, “I understand the hurt of finding out this huge thing via the internet rather than via your friends, but maybe airing your grievances to your +3M of followers wasn’t the smartest way to go? Phone calls are a thing. Texts too.”

Others were on the star’s side. A fourth Twitter user said, “He didn’t handle it badly. Why should he have to swallow his shock and only address the matter PRIVATELY when no one gave HIM the same courtesy? He found out he’d been shafted via a PUBLIC article! No courtesy heads up! So, yes, he handled it as any authentic person does.”

Are Things All Good Between Them Now?

Not to worry, you guys, because things appear to be all good between Padalecki and Ackles now. It turns out, the guys talked it all out over the phone.

“@JensenAckles and I had a great talk, as we do often, and things are good,” Padalecki announced on Twitter a few hours after all the drama went down. “The show is early in the process with miles to go. We’ve travelled a lot of roads together, and sometimes those d**n roads have bumps. Bumps don’t stop us. Once brothers, always brothers. #spnfamily.”

Phew, that’s a relief! Ackles even retweeted it and added, “Love you @jarpad. Miss these talks. I forgot how much face time we always used to get. And I miss that too. I know you’re busy… as am I, but you’re still my brother. I miss you, pal.”
