According to Variety, the eight-episode show will be based off Han’s young adult novel of the same name. Han wrote the pilot for the series, and will also serve as co-showrunner and executive producer, alongside Gabrielle Stanton (who also was behind The FlashGrey’s Anatomy and more), Karen Rosenfelt (who worked on the Twilight series), Paul Lee, Nne Ebong and Hope Hartman. Capital FM reported that it will follow Isabel “Belly” Conklin, “a teenager who spends her summer break with her mom, brother, her mother’s best friend and her two attractive sons who, for the first time, begin to really notice Isabel.” Variety described it as a “coming of age story about first love, first heartbreak, and the magic of a perfect summer.” Besides the love triangle, it will also focus on “the ever-evolving relationship between mothers and their children, and the enduring power of strong female friendship.”

What Has Jenny Han Said About ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty?’

The Summer I Turned Pretty is many years in the making, and I’m so excited to tell Belly’s story in 2021,” the author told the outlet. “For the longtime book fans, I think it will have been worth the wait. For those newly discovering the Summer series, I hope you fall in love with these characters and this place that is so dear to my heart.”

“We love seeing Jenny Han’s relatable, rich storytelling in full force with The Summer I Turned Pretty,” Albert Cheng, COO and co-head of television for Amazon Studios, added. “In bringing this beloved novel to life as a television series, Jenny’s distinct voice will resonate with our global Prime Video audience, who are eager for more smart, funny and authentic Young Adult content.”

Co-producer Lee continued, “Jenny Han has such a unique and authentic voice, her storytelling resonates so deeply with her millions of fans – we just love this show. We can’t wait to bring her timely series to a global audience with our friends at Amazon.”

The original book came out in 2009, and after it became wildly successful, Han went on to release two sequels, called It’s Not Summer Without You and We’ll Always Have Summer, in 2010 and 2011. Unfortunately, there’s no cast or release date just yet, but we hope they announce something soon!

When Is The Third ‘TATBILB’ Movie Coming Out?

This isn’t the only thing fans have to look forward to. Yep, for those who don’t know, we’re actually only a few days away from the premiere of the third and final TATBLB movie, Always and Forever, Lara Jean. The final chapter will hit screens on February 12, 2021, and boy, does it sound like it’s going to be intense. Here’s a synopsis for you: “Lara Jean is having the best senior year a girl could ever hope for. She is head over heels in love with her boyfriend, Peter; her dad’s finally getting remarried to their next door neighbor, Ms. Rothschild; and Margot’s coming home for the summer just in time for the wedding. But change is looming on the horizon.”

Wow, we can’t wait! But get this, you guys — Han told Entertainment Tonight that “fans should always be worried” about Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky’s relationship.

“The third movie really explores what happens when you’re in a relationship and then you have all the real-life stuff that comes into play,” she dished. “If I’m doing my job right, you’re worried.”

Lana Condor also revealed that her character is going to do a lot of growing up in the final movie.

“She really starts to make decisions for herself that might be unpopular but I think at the end of the day, as a young woman, you have to protect your own heart and make the decisions that are truly right for you regardless of the other people around you,” the actress explained. “Lara Jean loves love and she loves the guys, but at the end of the day, I know that she’s good on her own as well. We’ll see. It’s very satisfying, like, ‘Yes, girl! Get your life!’”

She also said it was her favorite movie out of all three!

“We ended on a really, really good note,” the star told Entertainment Tonight. “I’m forever grateful for the character and I’m really excited for people to see the third movie because I think the third one is my favorite movie out of the three. I think we’ve watched Lara Jean and myself grow up through these movies and I’m proud of the way that we end with her. I’m hopeful for her future. I see a bright future for her, and I know that she’s gonna go off and occupy her space and do the things that she loves. Particularly in the third movie you see a lot of personal growth from Lara Jean.”

She concluded, “Our movies are romantic comedies, so they are a lot about the guys, but I do believe that the third movie is truly about Lara Jean. It’s not about, oh, is she gonna pick a guy and all the love triangles all these things, which are great. But I think we also need to focus on who she is as a young woman and what she’s gonna do with her future. She’s going off to college and everything, so it does feel like a proper ending.”
