Make Space On Your Bookshelf Because John Stamos Is Writing A Memoir To Be Released In 2023

John Stamos, recognizable for his role as Uncle Jesse on Full House, will recount his extensive Hollywood career in his new memoir, If You Would Have Told Me, acquired by Henry Holt.

Scheduled to release in 2023, the memoir will give readers a more in-depth look at Stamos' career and the people who shaped him along the way.

Executive Editor James Melia shared, “We have welcomed John into our living rooms and our hearts for nearly four decades. To meet John is to love him, and I’m so excited for him to introduce us to the man behind that winning smile and those legendary roles. If You Would Have Told Me is a wild ride through an unbelievable life, full of deft and humorous stories that will be an inspiration to many, and a long-awaited gift for his legions of fans.”

“If Not Now, When?”

Stamos shared in a statement, “If You Would Have Told Me is the book I never planned to write." Explaining, “but after losing Bob, finally becoming a father, and wanting to honor all the colorful people who have made me who I am today, I figured if not now, when? If You Would Have Told Me is my story about Hollywood, fame, fortune, and f–kups. It’s also about home, heart, and healing.”

The Full House star will write about his journey through Hollywood, beginning with his breakout role on General Hospital during the oh so popular soap opera days. He will also be sharing his experiences touring the globe with America's band the Beach Boys, the numerous Broadway productions he partook in, and of course his iconic role on Full House.

“The story not only of a life lived in front of the camera, but of the surreal highs and devastating lows of a misunderstood heartthrob who has always remained a dorky kid from Orange County, and of his midlife quest to find sobriety and a family of his own," the publisher described.

Inspired By A Friend

Bob Saget died on January 9th while in his room of the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Orlando, Florida. The comedian was on the road for his "I Don't Do Negative Comedy" tour when he was found unresponsive.

Saget quickly became a household name for his loving role as Danny Tanner in Full House. He was a single dad who loved his family beyond the moon (his daughters especially), a total "neat freak" and enthusiastic about almost everything. The 65-year-old comedian did a great job at being a character people could relate to. It was as if he was someone that viewers knew personally.

On Full House, Stamos and Saget were brother-in-laws (Jesse was Danny's late wife's brother) and loved each other as if they shared DNA. Their television kinship was heartwarming and admirable. Their chemistry was so natural, it's clear to believe that they were just as close off camera.

"I am broken. I am gutted. I am in complete and utter shock. I will never ever have another friend like him,” wrote Stamos, about Saget's death. "I love you so much Bobby."

Referring to his upcoming book, Stamos shared, “Honestly, while writing this book I’ve realized I have about a million stories to tell, and I think you may like at least four hundred of them. It has been cathartic and healing and sometimes heartbreaking to dig in and reveal so much. This book is something between a confession and a challenge to find grace in the smallest moments of our lives. I hope my memoir offers a window into my heart and mind and helps readers find little moments of magic that make life worth living. Get everything you want and live happily ever after, but have the humility to trust in something greater than yourself for guidance.”
